Wow! Thank you SO much for all the info firefly!!! I really appreciate it! It's been sort of difficult to figure all this out while I'm across the country. I have heard that the traffic in that area is horrendous so I have been trying to look at apartments that are near the highway. If you don't mind me asking, what area do you live in and do you think it is convenient? The apartment that my boyfriend and I are in love with is in Altamonte Springs.
I live in Winter Springs. I really like the area, but it takes me 10-15 minutes just to get to I-4. It also takes about 20-30 minutes to get to school. It's not too much of an issue anymore, but it was a bit of a pain first quarter. Time management was tough, and I felt like a lost a lot of study time just driving around. Now I'm just losing sleep time :) Altamonte Springs seems like a nice area. You probably won't see much of the area first quarter, but I'm sure you'll like it :)
Hi!I called UCF and talked to the nursing department, and they told me that graduates of Remington are not able to enter any of UCFs MSN programs because they are not a regionally accredited school (different accreditation than national). Also, my mother-in-law is in the Nurse Practitioner program at UCF, and her preceptors have told her the same information, since she asked them for me. I don't know about other schools. This is just what UCF says.
I was very curious about this. I wondered if other schools (not necessarily those in Florida, just other schools in general) would accept me into their graduate programs after I receive my BSN from RCON. So I checked the University of Florida website and it says that they "must have a B.S.N degree from a nationally accredited program". Does this mean that I would be able to apply (and potentially be accepted by) UF? This is a huge deal to me because I plan on furthering my education, and if I will only be exempt from a few programs that have specific requirements, it's not the end of the world.

Okay great! Thank you so much! Just another question that I had (as I'm currently in the process of cleaning out my closet before we move)... I noticed that in the catalog it says that to our classes, we must dress business casual. Is that true? And if so, what are we required to wear to class? Since it's almost physically impossible to bring my entire wardrobe, I just want to make sure that I bring plenty of the right kind of clothing with me.

They just don't want you wearing booty shorts or tiny tank tops with your "girls" popping out. Not sure where you're from, but Florida weather is hot and humid so shorts and tank tops are commonly worn. We all wear jeans, t-shirts, and flip flops to class. Some people even wear old scrubs because they're comfortable. I would just bring comfortable clothes fit for Florida weather. Hope that helps! :)
I am moving there from California :)
About accreditation, I talked to Remington and they are pursuing getting regional accreditation, they also said that they are planning to start a masters program although I don't know what type of program it will be. I think if they get regional accreditation it will not matter if it happened before or after we have graduated.
Hi all (ESPECIALLY KELLI),
I just got accepted into the July class and am planning on returning to California to be licensed and work. I was alerted by an advisor at my local community college that the RCON PROGRAM MIGHT NOT MEET LISENCURE REQUIREMENTS IN CALIFORNIA. I have been calling the CA board and the FL board to get a straight answer. It looks like RCON has pretty low credit hours of instruction, and doesn't require labs for the science prereqs. A woman I talked to at the CA Board said that these are "red flags", but couldn't give me a deffinative answer. Does anyone from previous classes know of anyone from the program working in California???? Or have any advise about how to find out if the RCON program meets lisencure requirements in other states? Has the administration helped students navigate these types of issues?
Kelli- Do you have ideas/info about this?
Also, regarding the accreditation issue, maybe the problem (about getting into grad school) is that RCON is accredited by the Commission of Technical Schools and Career Colleges. Maybe real Universities like UF don't recognize a Bachelors Degree from a Tech School.
I'd love to go to Remington if I can be lisenced in CA and go to grad school at a university. If so.... I look forward to meeting you all at the orientation!
Oh no. I need to find out about that tomorrow then since I also plan on going back to california eventually, although it may be after my masters. I can see how some things might make it difficult but not needing the science classes to have labs. I looked at and got accepted into U of A and they did not require any labs even for microbiology (with remington does require) and they can get licensed in california... I turned it down because i didnt want to take out 80k in loans for a MSN that isnt specific to anything. I am going to try to find out more about that tomorrow...
Kelli,
Did you find anything out? I haven't yet but I'll post it when I do. I misspoke about the science prereqs. Remington does require labs with the science prereqs, but they accept online labs, which I think is unusual-most schools (even community colleges) require physical labs. I'm surprised that U of A doesn't require labs. Congrats on getting in there, isn't it #7 in the country? Was it the 12 month MSN CNL program? I feel you on the money issue- all of the working nurses that I have talked to think its crazy to spend so much money, but the 36K is worth it to me (depending on the outcome of this licensure issue) because I can be working as a RN 13 months from now. I would really like this to work out, but I was also a little put off by the acceptance packet-the video of Jack Forrest and the financial legal agreement. It seemed to be to be too much about the financial contract between the student and the "campus" and not much about the content of this important degree that I have been working hard towards.
Did anyone watch the video?? He says flat out, if you're looking to higher your education, Remington is probably not the right place for you...
This scares me a lot...has anyone gotten any answers as to if or if not universities will accept the credits to peruse the nurse practitioner route or something similar...
This is definitely a deal breaker for me, I will look into it on Monday when my local universities are open.
In the mean time, does anyone at Remington know of anyone who has furthered their education past Remington? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
