Relocating..visiting in July. Buckeye??

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hi all. I'm an RN in Illinois. I graduated last May, so I just am finishing my first year. We sold AND CLOSED on our house here in record time (just over a month) so we are in an apt with all our stuff in storage waiting for our pre-planned visit to AZ the first week of July for house hunting. We've narrowed down three major areas: Gilbert, Chandler and Buckeye

We based this on what we can find data-wise about house prices and types, (We want new construction and prefer immediate delivery as we'd like to close in 30 days or by the very beginning of August to get our 9 year old in school on time) school districts and all the basic info one can gather. We've been out every year for the last 5 years and stayed in Tempe/Scottsdale/Flagstaff.

Anyways, I have seen lots of good info here over the last months about Chandler and Gilbert, but none about Buckeye. I really love what I've read/seen about some of the new subdivisions, such as Verrado, but I'd love some first hand info about neighborhoods, schools, traffic, oh, and hospitals. :lol2: (Although, I will not be starting my job search until we are settled..hubby can transfer with his current position, so the heat's off me, thankfully.)

Thanks a ton in advance!

Collin

Oh yeah, 113 not bad .... bring it on! And we have this to look forward to until Sept :D fun fun! Welcome to the valley of the sun!

I've lived in Gilbert for the past 9.5 years and absolutely love it. When I moved here it was very rural (we're talking dairy farms everywhere and corn fields) but now it is a growing area full of new families. There's a brand new hospital just down the street from me (so no freeways) and they're opening up two or three more in the next couple of months, all of them within easy driving distance. If you want to work at one of the more established hospitals your morning commute (if you work nights) is very easy 'cause everyone is going the other way. I commute to St. Joes right now and it only takes me about 30-45 minutes either way, I miss all the traffic working nights!

I would tell anyone to move out to Gilbert, Mesa or even north Queen Creek, there's lots of new builds and a lot of already built homes for sale.

Good luck in your search,

Keli

Hi Keli- will we ever work together

We moved here from Illinois 5+ years ago, however, I grew up here. I'm an East Valley person (Tempe) and love it. We're close to everything from here (downtown, airport, Chase Field, etc.) There's lots of houses on the market right now so closing quickly and moving in shouldn't be a problem no matter where in the valley you choose. Good luck with your decision. Keep cool and drink lots of water - we got very dehydrated when we did our home search in June of '02 and it wasn't as hot as this summer is! Tomorrow is promising to be 115!

Another point about Buckeye... you'd probably make lots of money on your investment if you could figure a way to make it work out there. It's the new area of Phoenix that is promising for growth.

Howdy!

We are back. We did bid on a home, then they proceeded to counter-offer with their LIST PRICE! Argh. We decided today to buy a spec home that is all ready to go in our favorite neighborhood, Verrado (Buckeye). We'll be moving soon and I'm very excited.

BTW, we were out there for the "1 degree below the record high" and it really wasn't too bad...dry heat, no humidity, stay out of the sun. Also, of the 3 allergy sufferers in my family, none of us had issues!

Wait until all the orange trees bloom! Now that's fun

It's actually cooled down this week .... was only like 109 today :D And guess what, it's only supposed to be 104 on Wed. Can you believe that you guys?! Cold front comin' in!

Hope .... maybe .... we'll actually have a monsoon this year? Doubt it, but would be nice to get some rain.

Dreamer, you guys havn't gotten any rain yet?

We've had 2 good monsoons already. The night before last was awesome!

Again, thanks for all your input. Hubby went out last week and really liked Verrado in Buckeye. We are currently 'in the middle of nowhere' here in Illinois, so driving 30/45/60+ mins to get places is our norm. We are going out Sunday and hopefully finding something we'll all like. We've made the decision (much to my elation) that I will take off the first half of the school year to help settle the house, kid, get to really know the area. Then, I'll start looking after Jan 1 for a job. I'm still working now and probably will right up until we move.

I'll report back next weekend! Wish me luck.

Oh, BTW, he sent me pics of the dashboard showing 113 degrees. Although, coming back to Chicago to 96 and humid, he said AZ was much more comfortable, you just be sure to stay out of the sun during the day this time of year! I figured I could just put my crockpot in the back of the car before work during summer and Voila! Dinner comes home with Mom!! :lol2:

I just got back from Yuma, AZ yesterday where it was 120. Coming back home to 90 degrees and nasty humidity.......I will take Arizona's dry heat any time. I had a blast and was shocked by all the negativity I have read here and on different boards about Yuma. It has really grown and I really loved the people-something I don't out east. ;)

Best wishes to you in relocating. I am moving late August myself!

Point taken, since some of that negativity on Yuma was posted by me.

I am very sorry you feel that way-especially since I don't know who you are nor have ever spoke to you. But, if you feel the need to redirect my post to you....that is fine-but don't put words in my mouth/post.

Good luck!

We have a misunderstanding, Jess! Maybe my last post didn't make my sentiment clear. I was trying to give a nod to you and acknowledge that you made a good point. I was also trying to make amends for some of the nasty things I've said about Yuma.

I absolutely was not trying to put words in your mouth (I don't even understand what you mean?).

You said you read on the board here about what some have said about Yuma and the negativity. Since I've been active in those discussions, I responded to this one. I meant well.

No problem, I understood wrong then. Your post to me sounded as if you felt I was pointing the finger at you (because you said you posted negativity). What I have read is not limited to allnurses but generally on the net and other boards-that is what I meant.

I have never read any nasty things that you have said about Yuma. We all have opinions about what we like/dislike and should be welcomed equally ;)

My point to the OP: What others may not like or describe may not necessarily mean the same to you. It is always best to go see for yourself and draw your own conclusions versus trying to get opinions from others.

Well, it's 78 in Chicago right now, but it is still humid. So, the windows are open and the air is still set to click on at a moments notice (aka: 76 degrees).

Anyways, we leave 7/30 and will arrive 8/2. We are very excited to relocate and I will definitely post updates once we are there.

Thank you again, everyone, for your help and input!
