relocating to Ft. Worth

Published

Hello everyone!

I'm getting ready to make an offer on a house in Ft. Worth (west of the 377 and east of I35 W and north of 820). Any ideas on good hospitals and commute times? We are moving from Arizona. ANY help would be useful! Is it an okay area?

Thank you!

Thanks for the reply! When you say Harris do you mean the whole system or a specific hospital?

Thanks!

I worked downtown, but I have heard good things about the other facilities too. The benefits are the same at all of them.

Does anyone know if the per diem rates are higher at the hospitals? Where I currently work, if you elect per diem it is no benefits with $5.00 extra per hour. Also, is there much self-scheduling in the area? What about staffing ratios?

Thank you!

I think those issues vary from hospital to hospital, so I don't have specific answers. My HCA facility has what is called "Special Full Time" which is no bennies/PTO but your base rate is 20% higher. North Hills Hospital is also HCA but I'm not sure if they offer the same plan. Self-scheduling is not just facility to facility, but unit to unit. Oh yeah, Harris FW was recently designated as a Magnet hospital if that has any draw for you.

Have you visited any of the websites? Or had time to grill the recruiters over the phone? :) I wish you the best of luck in finding a great "fit" for your first nursing job in North Texas!

Just a word to the wise - when I went from full time to PRN, my hourly rate went down a LOT at the HCA hospital I was working at. They have very set prn rates at the HCA's and they aren't competitive!

Why did your rate go down? Do they not recognize the cost of benefits? Also, I saw some weekend option plans with Baylor. What are the advantages?

Thanks!

Because HCA has really low prn rates unless you want to commit to 3 shifts a week. You can make much better prn rates with an agency.

Are you familiar with any agencies? Also, are part-time rates competitive with full-time rates?

All About Staffing provides nurses for the area HCA facilities. I've also heard good things about Precision Nurses (Precision Nurse Network?). Precision is supposedly very flexible, pays adequately, & lets their nurses remain pretty autonomous.

I have a good friend that works for favorite nurses and they pay her right at 30/hr to do regular med surg in the hospital. Oh I guess I better input here she is a LVN.
