Relocating to Fort Campbell, KY

Hello All,

I am an LPN who just exited the US Army (say...yay) and I will be moving to the Fort Campbell area by July 2006.

My wife and I are looking for best places to live.

Additionally...what are good agencies in that area? Hospitals to avoid? Best places to work? Looks like Nashville (Grrrr...one hour commute...) is the nearest big area.

Thoughts? Advice?

Hello and welcome to the area. I live about 60 miles northwest of Fort Campbell. The closest options for you are going to be Gateway Health Systems in Clarksville (I hear they are building a new hospital), Jennie Stuart in Hopkinsville, Western State (state psych) in Hopkinsville, or Cumberland Hall (private psych) in Hopkinsville. There is also Blanchfield Army at Fort Campbell. Nashville is probably about an hour away and several there both big and small. There are also some home health, etc available but I don't know much about them and very little about the hospitals. Do you have both your TN and KY license? You are going to be on the state border so that would increase your options. Not sure which are the best areas to live. Good luck.

I have not lived there in a number of years, but I did live on the post when my former husband was stationed there. We lived on the Tennessee side of Ft. Campbell which was great since Tennessee has no state income tax. And, I worked in Tennessee. Also, I got my BSN at Austin Peay in Clarksville in their first 4 year program (a very small class of 17) so if you are considering an RN degree, you're set. The local hospital in Clarksville is where most of my training occurred and they employed me as a nursing technician. They had an amazing pastry chef. It's where I first tasted and fell in love with sweet potato pie (sigh...). It was a nice town. Sounds like it's grown as things tend to do. Good luck!!

Welcome. I live in Hopkinsville, Ky. which is about 12 miles north of Ft. Campbell. We have Western State Hospital, a state psychiatric hospital, Jennie Stuart Medical Center and Cumberland Hall (private psych. hospital). Western State employees nurses through the state of Ky. and also hires prn through Crown Temp. service. I understand they pay RNs 32.00-35.00 per hour through Crown, no benefits, require minimum of 30 hours a month. Not a bad deal. Good luck in your search.
