religion prereqs

One of the schools I'm applying to requires a 2 religious studies prereqs. I have approval of the school to take them under the Philosophy courses as long as they are obviously religious in nature.

Here's my question. I'm not religious and was wondering if anyone out there, like me, has taken religious based classes? What where they like?

Holy Smoke, Batman! If you're at a religious school you're going to get much more than just the pre-req :) I will be at a private Catholic university, and religion is pervasive in all the teachings. If it troubles you, you may want to consider jumping ship now.

it dosn't trouble me in the least.......:rolleyes: (not sure where you got that?)

i'm taking these courses under Philo.... so they are not sermuns, so to speak. the Uni has assured me that they welcome everyone and try to steer clear of preaching.

Like others have said try a Relgions of the World class. I myself am not religious and didn't have to take any religion classes but we did have a very interesting cultural component to our nursing class. We took a trip to a mosque and synangogue to learn about their customs and health care beliefts. It was very interesting and I learned a lot. I still love to talk about my experience, especially the experience at the mosque.

I went to a private Catholic school for my first degree where there was a Philosphy/Religon requirement, too. Even the flat-out "religeous" classes (dealing with the "proof of God" and things like that) were very interesting. They definitely make you think.

The college I got my first degrees from required 2 semesters (6 credit hours) of religion. No way around it. It was a semester of Old Testament and a semester of New Testament. It was not a religious class though--no doctrine or anything. More of a history class. We also looked into a variety of religions and beliefs, but it was all very surface information. All in all, not a bad class to have. I didn't learn much but it helped my GPA!

I think the most important thing to keep in mind is that as a nurse, you will most likely deal with people from all spritual backgrounds. Like others have already said, it will help you understand their spritual health needs better.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with the required Religion classes that you had to take, but I'm not so sure that your bad experience wasn't the result of the instructor. "Religion" does not mean "Jesus" as I'm sure any Muslim, Islamic, or Unitarian would be more than happy to point out.

ranchgirl...I was going to be moving to Co but we had a change in plans so we're off to Pa. I did look into Regis and UCSHC.
