Regis College Incoming Students for Fall 2009!

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

hi all,

i decided to start a new regis thread for all students who will be starting the accelerated bsn/msn program in september 2009! the other major regis thread is a little dated, and i wanted to give definite future students a chance to meet and greet in a separate thread!

i figure this will be a good place for any and all questions about the upcoming months ahead, along with getting to know our future classmates. :nurse:

please feel free to say hi or ask any or all questions in this thread - i personally am probably going to be throwing a little get together in boston (at my apartment) early summer for anyone who would like to meet before orientation in july!! :p

I wore suit dress pants, a top and a cardigan with flats and it was fine. Just to give you some insight on how "formal" the interview was ... I never even took off my trenchcoat! :) So it didnt even matter what I wore haha.

They asked me a page worth of questions, the standard interview type. Then she took me to the financial aid office to give me some info, then brought me on a short tour but it was pouring outside so we didn't get to do much .. and that was it! 45 minutes max. Don't stress it too much; just think over what you like to convey in the interview to show that you're a great candidate. Good luck! :p

thanks very much. I have too much to say and am deciding what is best...I am only a little nervous as I was wait listed or rejected from the others schools I applied to....Thank you and good luck to all of you!

Hi everyone!

I'll be joining you all in the fall at Regis and am very excited to start nursing school! I'll be taking Ethics starting this May as well. Is anyone else taking the day class?

I'll be in group 1A in September, so it looks like I'll be in class with a few of you.

Where are people getting their CPR certification? I live in the Boston area and have no clue where to start looking!

Heyy welcome! I'm in Group 1B, so yeah I'll definitely be taking some classes with you in the fall.

The American Heart Association website tells you local hospitals and schools that offer it. The Boston Area is quite big, so I figured this website would be more helpful. Just put in your zip code!

On that website, you should find Caritas Carney Hospital in Dorchester. I got CPR certified at there. MGH recommended the course to me. It is the cheapest price around- $30! They offer it every other Thur and every other Sat. It's called BLS for Healthcare Professionals and is in accordance with the American Heart Association.

Thanks guys! That's very helpful.

Hey de, thanks for that info - I was actually searching for a semi-cheap class today myself, and the cheapest class I could find is not only during the week only but $75!! Ugh... I'm definitely going to hike to Dorcester and take it there - thank you!! :)

Oh but however, don't forget that your BLS card HAS to be dated for AFTER June 2009 and the Caritas Carney has dates only up until the end of May right now ... I will post when June dates become available!

Hi All,

I will be joining you in the fall as well, group 1C. I am glad I found this thread, never got any notification about the ice cream social on Wednesday. Strange, they definitely have my email address, but I guess I will have to confirm it again with them. I will be in Micro in summer session I, anyone else? That is my last pre-req, looking forward to the rest of summer to rest up before school begins! Can't wait to meet all of you!

For all of you going to the ice cream social tonight, can you write on here if anything important was answered or said? I won't be able to make it tonight unfortunately :(

Also, who's going to the orientation on May 13th? I got the email about it yesterday.

aww we missed you! It was pretty low key. It was mostly mingling and ice cream. Important stuff:

-Financial Aid: We should be getting stuff either within a month or in a month. We all get the same package it sounds like, which ends up being a combination of subsidized and unsubsidized loans equaling $20,000. Tuition is 28,900, so if we need the extra $9000 (ME!!!) there are direct loans for that too...it seemed pretty simple. But yeah more info in a month or so.

-The orientation on May 13th is just if you're taking summer classes. That also includes me, but I can't go cuz I'm still in school. But the woman who runs it said that it was okay if you couldn't go and she'll be sending an email about it afterward also. The real orientation for the fall they rattled off the top of their heads but wanted to double check was August 18th (we'll be getting info about that soon too).

-Random info: we have 60 people in our class there are A LOT of people on the waitlist and there are like 5 or so people they are still deciding on. There are 6 guys in the class--only one was at the icecream social. And there was a big age range, which I think is cool. Although I think I'm the youngest (one of the admissions woman told me that there are only 5 people who are still seniors and I'm on the younger end of my grade), which I'm not thrilled about, but that's just me haha

And everyone was really enthusiastic and seemed really chill. I think we're going to have a great class!

If you think of any specific questions they may have addressed them and I'm just blanking off the top of my head, so you can try them on me. As I said it was a lot of mingling and getting to know people. Everyone can't wait to have the whole group together in August!!

Thanks so much for all that info Jennifer! As for the financial aid, is it $29k each year or per semester?? You can tell I haven't even looked at that stuff yet... haha.

I WILL be going to the orientation May 13th so I will get all the info for you then! I'm VERY surprised there are 60 people in our class ... when I interviewed in December they very specifically said there was approximately 35 people in the class. Maybe due to the mentioned economic problems of the school they upped the amount of people in the program to make more $$? Are they only going to have 60 people in the class or did it sound like there will be more? I can't think of any questions right now but if I end up having any I'll let you know

And don't worry...I'm definitely one of those people who will need $9k in private loans too! Not to mention $$ for living expenses... sigh.
