  1. Wow I am sorry to hear all of this negative feedback about Regis College. I was just recently accepted to MGH Institute of Health Professions and will be attending their direct-entry NP program this fall. I was a little shocked at the requirements for Regis College. For example, I took a semester of chemistry that included general, biochem, and org. Regis would only count it for one semester of chem. MGH accepted it for the chem requirement. I also was a psych minor and Regis would not accept any or the combo of my psych courses to meet their psych requirment. There is no psych requirement at many other competitive programs I looked into and for those that had one, I am pretty sure they would accept my minor to fullfill it. Regis also said they would take my business ethics course to meet their ethics requirement--in my eyes, the 2 courses are not related at all. My point is their system just doesn´t make much sense to me and the person who interviewed me did not really even seem to recognize my questions as important or of concern. These schools cost a lot of money and in the end, if you want to become a NP, you need to get through a lot of nonsense to get there. But I am happy to be going to a school that actually listened to me during the application process and promptly answered my questions, with clarity and reasoning. I think all of you who are attending Regis will be great nurses, as you have clearly worked very hard to get to this point and it shows you have the work ethic needed. Just don´t let those teachers on their high horse get you, and just plow through the work. A friend of mine told me to just take the bull by the horns and GO FOR IT when I got accepted to the MGH program! I was going to defer for a year and possibly move to Cali (still in my future plans to live there). I decided to just take on this challenge now and I am happy with the decision. I´m not sure about any of you but I have literally worked so hard the last year to perfect my application as best I could. I volunteered at a hospital, studied hard for GRE, took all of my sciences minus the 2 I´m about to take on this summer, and worked full time in healthcare as well. I think if you are like me, you will work hard in this program and you will see results. There are going to be many obstacles, as that is how life goes. A doctor at my work has already warned me of the days you feel on top of the world that can then turn into the next day of feeling that you are worthless and cannot help anyone at all that day. pERHAPS REGIS IS ACTUALLY PREPARING YOU FOR WHAT THE REAL WORLD OF WORKING AS A NURSE IS LIKE! IT ISN´T GOING TO BE A PIECE OF CAKE WHERE EVERYONE IS NICE AND AGREES WITH YOU, AND IS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP YOU! I´ll leave you with a piece of advice he gave me. Nursing is like being caught in a storm with tidal waves. So what are you going to do when the waves take you in and you can´t get out? Are you going to fight those waves? (He asked me). I replied ¨Nah, I´m going to ride them and let them pass, then I´ll swim back, stronger than before, and find my way to a better place.¨
  2. PS Does anyone know anything about the microbio online course at Colorado Comm Colleges online? I could have sworn they had an online microbio course mentioned on their site to start Wed the 24th. Also read this above. I applied last week, was accepted to the college, but now cannot locate the course or get ahold of anyone there. I am in Spain and am trying to register for an online mircrobio course either there, at OCC (Jersey nursing girl is super convincing to take this course-just can´t sign up), or anywhere for this summer. Can anyone please help advise??? I need you desperately right now!! And if anyone knows anything about Uni of Phoenix online Micro, please do tell!
  3. Hi Jersey girl,:wink2: I really want to take the online Microbiology course you mentioned. Can I take A and P II at the same time? These are my last 2 prereqs before starting nursing school this fall!!! WAHOO I was just taken off a wait list about a week and a half ago. Do I need to call the school to register? I attempted online but no luck. Just keep going back and forth all over their website and am getting frustrated. Should I just call the # you mentioned? Thanks for your help I´m in Spain so it´s hard to do all of this with a super slow internet connection. Thanks so much!!!
  4. I just got pulled off the wait list! I just got my acceptance letter to MGHIHP Direct-Entry Master's program!!!!!!!!
  5. I interviewed with Regis the last week of April and am still waiting to hear back. I am so anxious! Anyone have advice or know when I should expect to hear?
  6. I am waiting to hear back from Regis direct entry NP program ...interviewed late April so should hear any date now. Anyone have any idea when I might hear? I'm quite anxious..
  7. WOW GVNFDBCK, First of all, thank you for your honesty. Second of all, do you think this attitude is common in all nursing schools? Why do you think a professor would get a delight out of seeing students fail, and not want to help? I am really sorry you had such a horrible experience at Regis. If you don't mind my asking, how are they manipulative and what do they lie about? Have you heard of other nursing students complaining of the same issues at their schools? Are you still in school and are you still hoping to become a nurse?
  8. sweet! I am glad he fixed those errors good luck!
  9. FYI-I just took that course. The course isn't too bad, but the professor makes A TON of mistakes in the online lectures (the Tutor). There were also several mistakes on the quizzes (for example he would quiz on info not yet discussed) and I am not sure if he would have fixed my grade, had I not told him. On top of that, the online labs are difficult to read so be prepared to contact the lab professor to ask questions, who prefers phone over e-mail. The actual material covered in the book is pretty simple and straightforward so I advise you to read the materials yourself instead of relying on his lectures. His lectures will help with some of the prep work for exams but just wanted to warn you ahead of time in case he hasn't fixed the errors (I literally just took my final).
  10. On that website, you should find Caritas Carney Hospital in Dorchester. I got CPR certified at there. MGH recommended the course to me. It is the cheapest price around- $30! They offer it every other Thur and every other Sat. It's called BLS for Healthcare Professionals and is in accordance with the American Heart Association.
  11. thanks very much. I have too much to say and am deciding what is best...I am only a little nervous as I was wait listed or rejected from the others schools I applied to....Thank you and good luck to all of you!
  12. This may be a silly question, but what does GM stand for? Thank you!
  13. Hello all of you Regis MS in Nursing to-be peops! I have my interview on Tuesday! As I'm preparing, I was hoping somebody could tell me if I should wear a suit. I normally would for all interviews, but am coming from work that day and don't want to wear a suit to work. Do you think a nice suit skirt and a short sleeve blouse is all right? Hopefully it will be warm out! Is the in-person interview formal? I have heard the phone interviews are pretty informal and the Regis people are quite nice. I am very excited! Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks and hope to meet all of you soon!!!
  14. also wait-listed at NEU. I was rejected from Simmons! According to rankings, my situation doesn't make sense, but who knows exactly what each school is looking for... I started thinking about applying to Regis last week as I am a little worried. But I just started the prereqs so my original plan was to apply to MGHIHP next year. I can always reapply there if I don't get accpeted...or go the BSN route. I don't have a car and don't want to have to buy one unless needed so I wasn't originally planning on applying to Regis. It is nice to have options though. We'll see. Where else did you apply? Why did you choose MGHIHP?
  15. I think you should be considering this program if you want to become a NP. It is not meant for people who want to be a RN. If you want to work as a RN and are concerned about if you might not be able to finish the 3 year program, I would do an accelerated BSN first. That way you'd have the option to work as a RN and find a job easier as an RN. Then you could always go back for your masters when you were ready (and if immediately after, that is a possibility too). If you are concerned about the job market for RNs and want that experience first or as an option, that is what MGHIHP recommended to me because I asked the same question! They also told me if I am not removed from their wait list, I could apply for their accelerated BSN, work as an RN and then apply for my masters through them and get both experiences. I am hoping to get off their wait list as I know I want to be a NP but at least there are plenty of options and you can tailor these programs to your life if you speak with schools that are interested in you! Good luck. Where are you headed to school in the fall? Regis still has rolling admissions open. I called them yesterday. I might apply and would have that BSN, which is a good point :-) They allow and encourage you to work part-time as a RN if you desire, while you do your masters if you want!
