Regis College Incoming Students for Fall 2009!

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

hi all,

i decided to start a new regis thread for all students who will be starting the accelerated bsn/msn program in september 2009! the other major regis thread is a little dated, and i wanted to give definite future students a chance to meet and greet in a separate thread!

i figure this will be a good place for any and all questions about the upcoming months ahead, along with getting to know our future classmates. :nurse:

please feel free to say hi or ask any or all questions in this thread - i personally am probably going to be throwing a little get together in boston (at my apartment) early summer for anyone who would like to meet before orientation in july!! :p

Yeah I'm just doing a recert because I have the AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider card from being a medical assistant ... it expired in Aug of 08. I've noticed there are quite a few options for recerts, especially in Boston, and like you said, they're available twice a month or so. Thanks for the info! =)

I didn't try looking towards Boston--it's actually closer to look around Worcester for these classes. Good to know that they're offered more frequently in other places--I've had experience only with Red Cross certifications.

Jennifer0512- I am in Group IB as well! We will def. have to meet up at the social! Is anyone planning on working through the program?

I'm going to keep my second job at a bar, but I'm quitting my current full time job. I want to be able to have ample time to study and whatnot. I'm also thinking about joining a sports team ... Are you going to be working?

YAY! That's so exciting. Yes we'll def have to catch up at the social :)

As far as work goes I'm just doing part time for my mom--she runs a dog walking company and if I have free time she can just stick me in where she needs me. So that's really convenient. I will def be doing that Fridays and weekends since our group has those off. Maybe also on Tuesdays since we only go till 10 AM--depending on the homework situation I guess.

The money situation will be interesting--that's for sure!

Hi everyone :) I am just in the process of getting the last few things together for applying for Fall 09, a bit late but after speaking with admissions it looks like I might just squeak in :)

For those of you who are already accepted can you tell me what the schedules for classes looks like? I am trying to decide whether the daytime or evening route would suit me better. I'm so excited about potentially getting in this Fall, and from having the tour and speaking to a few people it looks like a really great school too. :)

Hi,

The day schedules run from super intense (on one, I noticed a half hour break between two several hour classes) to just slightly less intense (maybe a longer break between classes but have to hang around campus longer). Some schedules manage to get most of the classes into the day hours, except for one notable exception (clin. pharm.) which appears to be only offered at night. Others are more evenly split. Clinicals for the day schedule seem to be on Thursdays or Fridays, 7 AM-3 PM. It was important to me, because of commuter distance, to avoid a schedule involving getting home from a class around 9 the night before only to have to get up around 4:30-5 for a clinical that could involve commuting into Boston. I'm not so sure I can do that! I didn't pay much attention to the night schedule. There is certainly a wide variety to choose from.

Best of luck to you! Hope to see you in the Fall! :D

I got my frist choice of group 1A. This is the one with the more intense day with only a half hour break between classes, but for me this was the best option. I would rather get into class, and be out at a earlier hour. I have never been one for night classes so I try to avaoid the 5-8. I was also very happy to see that I have Friday's off! It is nice to know you always have a long weekend, and with lab on thursday from 7-10, I can start the weekend (and studying) early. Looks like there is only one Pharmacology class, so it looks like we will all be in that together.

Yay! Calallily Group1A and Group1B (the group I'm in) have a lot of classes together. All except Health Assessment I believe... So we'll definitely be seeing a lot of each other!

Thanks for your replies so far :) So how many days a week are classes held? I'm hoping the schedule would allow maybe one or two days a week to work, with homework taking up most of the weekend. Also, is anyone going to live on campus? I'm trying to figure out where to live, as I need to cut costs in order to afford school. The whole loans process is scary! But I am hoping it will all be worth it, as I am insanely motivated LOL :)

There is one full day off per week, and then there is also a day where you have lab for only 3 hours. You could definitely work both of those days and still have the weekends. What day you get off will depend on which group you get into. The information on the groups was sent out a couple of weeks ago, so I would think that anyone who had already been accepted proabably responded by now. Are you looking to do day or night classes?

I think night classes, as I am more of an afternoon/evening person than early morning person! And if I stay where I am currently living I would have to face the Pike at rush hour and that thought does not appeal to me at all!!! I think night classes are scheduled from 4pm or so until 9 or 10pm? And the clinicals are the same times too I think? I've tried getting more detailed schedule info from admissions but as I am not formally accepted yet they won't tell me anything. I would love to get a clearer view of the the schedules though as it plays a huge part in whether I will be able to work and therefore how much funding I need to secure. It's complicated but exciting!:roll
