Regis College Fall 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey guys,

I was recently accepted to the Direct entry MSN program for family nurse practitioner at Regis College and I had a couple of questions regarding the school and I was hoping someone at allnurses could shed some light about the program.

First Question is How much is the total cost for the family nurse practitioner program?

Second Question is there any scholarship available that I can get?

Third Question, does regis help you find a preceptor or do the students have to find their own?

Fourth Question, are the professor/clinical instructors out there to help the students or do you have to do everything on your own?( I heard a lot of negative feedback regarding this topic and i just want some clarification)

If someone who attended this school can answer these questions and if they can also give their review about the school/program I'll greatly appreciate it.

Thank you guys

Could someone please make a facebook group for the incoming class? Thank you

Hi guys, after reading the threads I saw a lot of comments on finding preceptors. I was wondering if someone could elaborate on this. I can not find information about this on Regis's website and I am not exactly sure what this means.

Basically it means that once you start the master's portion, you have to find a nurse practitioner willing to work with you. You need a certain amount of hours doing this in order to graduate. Regis does not provide placements for this like they do for clinical placements during the RN portion. There are pros and cons because you do have freedom to choose an area of nursing that maybe you wouldn't be able to if it were assigned to you. I have heard sometimes it can be stressful to find an NP to work with, but so far I haven't heard of anyone not graduating because of it.

Hi everyone, I don't have FB but I am asking my friend to post for me! And I talked with the director, she told me that you apply for and are placed for the RN placements, but for the NP preceptor I believe you do have to find it on your own.

Concerned with cost, is everyone looking at loans? Or outside scholarships?

Does anyone know what do in the master's portion? how are we supposed to get hours for the np portion if we are not familiar with anyone in that region? Would we be able to get them elsewhere? I was told that it isn't a good idea to go to a school with no preceptors for the latter portion. Someone help please thank you.

I graduated from the Regis GM program in 2015, so almost 3 years ago.

For cost and scholarships, I would look directly on the Regis website, as these can change from year to year.

When I went to school there, Regis had two full time clinical coordinators whose jobs were to find placements for the NP program. They usually find each student at least one. Regis placed me with 2 and I found 2 on my own.

As for professors, like many schools, this was a mixed bag. Some professors were amazing- really dedicated and always where to help. There were others who were the complete opposite and those classes could be "fend for yourself." At the end of the day, once graduating from Regis, I was very prepared to pass my boards and I had a full time job lined up before I had graduated. It wasn't always easy, but the end result is what I was aiming for.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your decisions.

I'm so happy to hear a positive review about Regis- I am starting the online psych NP program next month and it's been frustrating that the reviews are old and few and far between. I'm in Utah so I really don't know what to expect with this school. Sounds like this thread is for campus students but my question is just about the school in general. Does this school properly prepare you for boards? Of course I have asked the school for the numbers and they look good but they are also trying to sell me the school so I would love any feedback on Regis College as a whole. So main question... What type of reputation for nursing does Regis have in the Boston area?

I graduated FNP and took the FNP boards, so I'm not sure that my experience will directly apply to yours. I found that as long as you felt comfortably with the course material during class, you felt fairly confident in taking the boards. I used the Leik boards review book as well as the online Fitzgerald Review, studied for 3 weeks after graduating, then passed. Regis tends to push the classroom Fitzgerald Review, which is also an option if you feel you need it. Regis's reputation has been good in this region. As Regis accepts a greater number of students over time, this could change. It's hard to say, but it is one of the longer-running NP programs in the area. I find that great NPs come from all different schools, as do some less competent NPs. All depends on what you put in. I think my advice would be to choose a longer-running program (Regis, Simmons, BC) over some of the newer programs. They still have a lot of kinks to work out a lot of the time.

Thank you! So so helpful! Mostly, it just gives me peace knowing that I can get a good education and pass boards ( the first time). I'm excited to get going next month. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

did anyone get their financial aid package yet?

This is a forum for the accelerated BS/MS in nursing, not for an online psych NP program.

FYI the title of this forum is "Regis College Fall 2018" so I came here looking and I am not a BS/MS student. I think others will probably look here as well as the title does not say it is strictly BS/MS direct entry...just saying...
