Refresher Course Options

Hello,:)

I graduated from nursing school in 1983 from Durham Technical institute. I took the NCLEX for the first time in 2008 and last month, I failed both times but I am determined to "Pass This Test". Will someone help me please! I need some good advice on what I need to do.:crying2:

why not take a review course (live one) so that you will be able to grasp all the contents needed for nclex. It is really important that you will have a good content study first. I failed twice , graduated in 2008 ; hence this time, i am reviewing the whole content book of Saunders. Try to browse the saunders comprehensive review 5th ed, maybe you will love it too.

Did you ever work as a nurse? How long? I am having a hard time telling.

If you haven't worked since you graduated in 1983 there is little chance you will ever pass without going back to nursing school. And you need to!

However, if you worked as a nurse in all the intervening years then I would think just a review course would be enough to get you up to speed.

It sounds like you may need a really good content review course.

I graduated almost 9 years ago. I took the NCLEX once & failed it right after graduation. I finally took it again for the 2nd time in January 2011 and passed. I spent roughly 6 months doing a lot of content reviewing. If you have trouble motivating yourself (like I did), make sure you give yourself plenty of time before re-applying/re-scheduling to retake the exam.

I used Kaplan NCLEXRN Review On Demand, because I could use it when ever I had time. I also used the Saunders book for more indepth content info.

I am scheduled to take a Refresher course that includes lecture & clinical rotation, because I know I need the opportunity to perform and practice fundamental nursing procedures in a skills lab before trying to get a job. I'm not sure if a "Refresher" course is what you need to take the NCLEX. From what I can tell, a refresher course is a course designed to prepare nurses who have been away from the field for entry level positions.

I'm not sure of any content review courses, but if I see any, I'll be sure to post back on this thread.

Best of luck to you! :)

I did work as a nurse and currently working @ a skilled nursing facility. Thanks for the advice. I will most definitely apply the information in passing the NCLEX.
