Recording Lectures

Hi all! I am going to start my prereqs at Ivy Tech in the spring, and I am wanting to record the lectures.

Do any of your professors not allow recording (either in a nursing program or outside of it)?

I am looking around for good voice recorders and I was just wanting recommendations on any if you are using one. I would feel more comfortable spending money on it if I knew someone who has had a good experience with the one I would be buying. Lol

The cheaper the better but less then $100 would be great. I would just use my phone but it runs out of battery so quickly. I don't think I would get a good recording with it anyways.

I want one where I don't have to keep it out and I can just set it in my purse and forget about it. I don't know if that's possible to get a good recording that way, but figured I'd try.

Thanks! :D

I got mine from best buy, but it looks like its been discontinued. Definitely look into the other Sony voice recorders. I am sure they are similar, probably a updated version of what I have as well.

Will do! Thank you.

I was allowed to record lectures in college. It was the suggestion of the Dean for Students with Disabilities when I as having trouble retaining information post-brain surgery. The school gave me the tape recorder and everything and sent a letter to my professors explaining it. I never listened to any of the recordings I made so I gave it back to the Dean to give to another student at the end of the semester.

I did have some classmates in nursing classes who tried to just record lectures without the professor's consent and it did not go over well. Voice recording someone without their knowledge/permission is illegal in my state.

I think choosing this profession (nursing) you have to have integrity on the job as well as some form off of it. Like when I'm a nurse I am going to leave the building still a nurse.

I have stated that I am not going to in other posts, but I just wanted to be clear, though, I will NOT be doing that. I think it's silly to risk getting kicked out or even legal actual over this.. Personally, I wanted this for a long time, and I wouldn't want anything to jeopardize becoming a nurse (or in the future staying one).

That being said, I am just curious, you said it didn't end well for the ones who did it without consent. What happened? How did they find out?

That just seems odd, If you don't mind me asking.

My school allowed us to record lectures only. I purchased a $40 Olympus VN-7200 digital voice recorder off Amazon. Used it for all my lectures. I replaced the batteries once a semester to be safe, not because they'd died.

Listening to a lecture on tape takes as long as the class did. The best and most efficient use of my study time was to listen intently to the lecture and take notes. I reviewed my notes after the lecture and before tests. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Get a back up battery charger. It's called a battery bank.

I use my phone and I typically have my laptop so I keep it charging that way. Recording lectures is so helpful! I can study while I'm driving and doing household task. I love it!
