    Immunizations Advice

I got my 4 vaccinations today (or at least the starting doses). I was reading the information sheet about each one and on the chicken pox it says that I shouldn't get any other vaccinations with it. Does anyone think this would be a problem as far as my school is concerned? My doctor didn't mention this...

7 Ways to Sabotage Your Own Success in Nursing School

I am getting a job as a CNA again. I feel like they are going to make me work more than 16 hours. I want to make them understand even though I'm taking online classes for my prereqs I want most of my time to be studying D:

    Loud Cartoons for Elderly Patients

I'm not a nurse but I have worked in a few facilities as a CNA. Even when I had 30+ residents (with just another CNA and an RN) I was always walking down the halls checking on everyone. It wasn't hard to be aware of what was happening with my residents. Something isn't adding up.

    Nursing Simulations Like this One

Hi all! I was just wondering do most nursing schools generally do a simulation like this one? I was just curious when I get into my LPN program if it might have stuff going on like this. Looks fun! Can't wait!

    Immunizations Advice

Thank you SO much for this information. The county next to me has a program for the uninsured. I never thought to check out different counties because I know for sliding scale doctors some of them say you have to be in the county they reside in. So I assumed it was the same for stuff like this. I had no idea. I have a doctor's appointment on the 19th and they couldn't tell me exactly how much mine would cost. If it doesn't pan out with them I'll def check out the county that has a program for the uninsured and other counties just in case!

I sense a little bit of snippiness from your post (please correct me if I'm wrong). I'm not sure what I did to warrant that, but I apologize if I offended you at all. I ask about the different state thing because I have no idea how it works, obviously. Thank you for your posts and I hope you have a good night.

I thought doctors offices only keep records for a certain time period? Do you think they would send them to me since I live in a different state now? I mean it's worth a shot if I can remember what her name is, I guess.

    Immunizations Advice

I'm uninsured and don't have a job. Lol I was planning on waiting and getting a job as a CNA, but I might have to get a part time one just to pay for all this. I would hate to get one just to leave it though. That's if I can. I have been out of work for a while.

I might start doing that! Lock that up. lol I'm wondering though is the tdap vaccine just one shot? Like I know it's for different things but when you get it do they just stick you one time? Does anyone know? Edit: I'm researching this I'm just so confused. I might just stop for tonight. haha

    Immunizations Advice

I actually found a site though searching on here Immunity Panel - Hepatitis B, MMR & Varicella Titer Panel – LabReqs.com $139 for Hep B, MMR, and Varicella titers I'll call my health department, and both of my sliding fee clinics near me just in case the vaccines are cheaper. I do need to get my Tdap vaccine, and worse comes to worse I'll go to Walgreens and get it for like $64. I guess I can live with those prices. This is just such a pain! It's my fault for not keeping better care of my paperwork though. Ugh.

    Immunizations Advice

I went on the hunt looking for my immunization records today, and I can't find them. I was just wondering if anyone could give me advice as to what to do. Lol I guess I need a titers test? I am getting my CNA again (since it's been so long) so I can start working while I am doing my prereqs. They require my immunization records, and I guess this is a good thing that I have to deal with this now, since I would before I apply for the LPN program anyways. Do health departments usually do the tests and immunizations on adults as well? Would it generally be cheaper just to get each vaccine done again or do the titers test? I found somewhere that I could do a full panel titers test for $189 but it looks like it's on sale or something, so that might change when I actually have the money to do it. Just looking for advice from those who know about this stuff. Thank you!!

The Bravest Thing I've Ever Done

I left someone who would have probably been physically abusive. All the signs were there. He was emotionally abusive, would break things, and even hurt himself one time. (I honestly think he wanted to hurt me but hurt himself instead). I constantly made excuses for his behavior. "Oh that's just him." "He has anger problems, I mean we all have emotional problems to some degree, right?" I'm so much better as a person since he's gone. Honestly, he was the one who broke up with me, but it was probably the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. You did something I couldn't, when I should have. You are very brave!

I want to be a nurse but im not good at math

Hey, I had people who told me nursing was too hard as well. Honestly, the way they said it implied that they thought I couldn't do it. Don't let that hold you back from doing what you want to do in life. I let it affect me and here I am 30 years old just now realizing I can do this if I apply myself. And guess what? You can too. If you are struggling in math I would ask your school if there is any extra tutoring you can do, or take the initiative and study what you don't understand by yourself. Start with YouTube and work your way through it. Today I just registered for my prerequisites for the nursing program at my local community college. I discovered they offer free tutoring - so that's another option. Check to see when you do apply if they offer free tutoring at wherever you go. Also I don't think I'm very strong in math, but in those classes I plan on asking for help if I need it and putting in extra study time. My point is don't let not being strong in math worry you so much you have options for help!

    Vision in One Eye

Hello all! I am finishing my prereqs starting in January for the LPN program. I'm just wondering, as a nurse, do you think this will effect me? I honestly think as long as I am more aware of my surroundings, especially while working directly with a patient, I should be okay. I just wanted other people's opinions. I mean I can legally drive so my other eye is fine as long as I'm wearing my glasses. I have worked as a CNA a long time ago so I know what the setting is in long term care. (That's what I want to do as a nurse). I had peripheral vision in that eye then and I didn't have any problems. It's just I'm concerned about safety I don't want to put anyone in danger. I also don't want my patients not to trust me because they can tell my blind eye is blind. I have a little bit of a cataract going on. It's not full and not that milky white. It's just a bit cloudy and It just looks weird. Thinking like a patient, I don't think I would care if my nurse was blind in one eye, but that could just be because of my experience with it. Thoughts/advice?
