Recomendations for neonatal stethoscopes

Published

Hi! As I am fed up with the cruddy stethoscopes that I can't hear anything with in my unit I have decided to break down and get my own. I have it narrowed down to a Littman and an Ultrascope and wondered if anyone had any feedback or suggestions. I have an adult Littman which is great, but didin't know about the Ultrascope. Thanks! I like the pedi/neo Littman (I think that's the one) but I wouldn't be allowed to bring my own even if I brought it. All infants in our unit are given their own stethescope on admission and keep it until discharge when it is cleaned thoroughly. We have many different brands spread out but I think my favorite was the Littman (I own an adult Littman of some sort from when I worked with adults).

We use the neonatal littmans.

I love my neonatal Littman so I'd recommend that one...I know nothing about the Ultrascope so can't speak to that.

We use the neonatal Littmans. I'm in the process of ordering for my unit, cost is less than $70 each including shipping. We have to buy our own but it's cheaper if you can place a bigger order.

Our unit supplies Littmans for each baby that are cleaned when the baby is dc'd. It took some getting used to, but I like them.

Agreed to you all

We(Eastern Swiss Childrens Hospital) use the Littman´s both pediatric and neonatology. I can say, that theese are the best i have seen im my career there is no doubt.

One of theese would be a good choice, not exactly knowing if there are better ones you could find. But i think the Littmans are more then enough for daily work with them.

I will only use a Littman. I have 3 one for neonated one for pedi and one for adults. They are the most reliable and you can buy replacement parts very easily. Our unit only uses Littmans. We have one for each baby at their bedside and when they are discharged they are cleaned and ready for the next admission. Even after years of use, we rarely have one "go bad". Our biggest problem is them "walking off" with a resident or student.
