Hi! We had 2 babies in our newborn nursery that wound up with MRSA. Led to whole staff being cultured ( all negative ) and the practice of gowning and gloving before touching any baby in the newborn nursery. Our nursery was closed and we started couplet care. They found out that these cases were community acquired. They blamed the nurses when they should look at the visitor policy. Tons of people around a newborn who can be sick and who often don't wash hands before touching a newborn. It's tough. Tink
Hi! As I am fed up with the cruddy stethoscopes that I can't hear anything with in my unit I have decided to break down and get my own. I have it narrowed down to a Littman and an Ultrascope and wondered if anyone had any feedback or suggestions. I have an adult Littman which is great, but didin't know about the Ultrascope. Thanks! Tink
One of my charge nurses in my old hospital was a male and he was fantastic! Great nurse and fun to work with. I think men bring a different and welcome perspective and dynamic to the NICU. Also, I've noticed that the dad's would seek him out as someone they could relate to in an estrogen rich environment. Good luck! Tink
