I'm a new graduate, being looking for jobs in New Jersey for months. I'm trying to apply for reciprocity in New York. How much does it cost for the whole process?

The Board of Nursing website for the State of New York would be best place to find out the costs associated with applying for reciprocity.

Also remember NCLEX has reciprocity but to obtain a license you need to endorse and meet requirements to endorse

Hi there! I hope this helps...

There is no reciprocity between the NJ and NY RN license, meaning that if you want to work as a registered nurse in NY, you need to have a NY RN license. There are several steps needed in obtaining your NY RN license. I've had to go through all this recently, so I just want to help you out.

Go to this website and follow all the steps: NYS Nursing:Application Forms RN LPN

As far as costs, the application fee itself is $143.00. The fee to take the 2 required courses (Child Abuse Identification and Infection Control) is about $45.00 and a few hours of your time. I did those courses online and printed the certificate of completion and mailed it to the NY BON. The fee to have NJ BON verify you have a NJ RN license through Nursys or by mail is $30.00. According to a rep I spoke with, the process can take 6-8 weeks and if I were you, I would get it in ASAP if you really want that NY RN license. Lots of folks will be graduating this December and they'll probably be bombarded with applications. Good luck my friend.

What is the difference between reciprocity and endorsement?? Do you need to take a test for any of these??

Reciprocity in the case of NCLEX means the exam is accepted by all states. Endorsement is meeting requirements of the state that was not of your original license and having your training accepted. Some states like Texas and New York have requirements that also need to be met that involves a small test, so best to check the state you are applying to and see what is stated on their website

Thank you, Silverdragon

Specializes in new grad.

where did you graduate.. cause if your a foreign grad like me, you have to go through CGFNS.. and they seriously work like turtles.. about 6-9 months for the whole process!!

If I verify through NURSYS and pay $30 do I still have to mail the Form 3 to NJBON?

mcabreza, she says patiently, call the nj bon and ask them.
