RECIPROCITY to California - RN Graduate from the PHILIPPINES

World Registration

Published

Hello all,

I am a BSN graduate from the Philippines, and an RN there and in New York.

I'm sure you guys know that international BSN graduates has not been getting through the California BRN since year 2010, because of the issue that foreign graduates (esp. from the Philippines) lack units during our college / Nursing years. This said, I know zero of my colleagues who applied to take the NCLEX got their ATT, since o'10.

I recently applied to have my license in New York endorsed to California, and noted that one requirement they had is that I must provide my college transcripts from where I graduated (again, in the Philippines).

I am currently in CA, but I am thinking to just move to New York, if I am only waiting for my application to get rejected because I lack units, or cases/caseloads.

I'm looking for someone with the same case I am in, or who was in the same case.. Please help me, should I just go to New York? :( :( :(

hey, i plan to go to the philipines and go to nursign school would i have any issue working in the states?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Training outside the country you plan on living and working in may be an issue or may not. A lot for the US will depend on the state you plan on living and working in afterwards. Ideally better to train in the US if you are a USC then look abroad where it may be cheaper however registering may be more expensive

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Yes. Especially if planning to work in CA. The assessment and registration costs can easily outweigh the cheaper overseas tuition. Add the fact that the statistical NCLEX pass rate for first attempt internationally educated nurses is less than 25%. IENs are educated to the standards of the country of education. So nurses trained in the Philippines are trained to pass the NLE not the NCLEX

Hello, good day. I was just wondering if you had the chance to try to apply in California? Because I have the same case, a foreign graduate and I want to endorse my license in California and also I have my license here in New York.

I just want to know what did you end up with?

Thank you so much!

This is response to comment that students in the phils 15 student to 1 patient :headphone:

Hi. Nursing students in the Philippines handle 1 patient to 1 student per subject! Sometimes more. We are in groups but we have different patients. And if we are on government health centers/hospitals in the Philippines sometimes we handle more than 5' take vital signs, pre assessment notes before heading to the doctors or nurses on duty. I once been a medication student nurse in one whole ward.

As of now..I got my CA license now. thank GOD!

Did you take deficiency classes? Where??

Hi guys, I am new to this site and would like to share my experience endorsing my New Mexico license to California. I find your inputs here very useful thus would like to give others an idea on how my journey went.

- I am a licensed registered nurse in the Philippines, New Mexico and Alberta, Canada.

- I was educated in the Philippines.

- I applied in person last March 1, 2016 at the CBRN office. Handed all the documents including live scan, paid $100 USD cash fee.

- I opened an account via the Breeze website which showed my account was created April 4, 2016

- I got my license today May 10, 2016.It took me 10 weeks in total.

Fyi and thanks.

hi petchie, i also applied for endorsement from new mexico. and i'm still waiting for their response in my breeze account shows open and pending. did they ask your cases in the Philippines?

Hi Ponce123, they didn't ask for my cases in the Philippines. I just submitted all the required documents as stated in their website. I just patiently waited until my license showed via my breeze account.

what year did you graduated? i'm also waiting for my license i send my application last march 21 and still waiting. what status in your breeze account while you are waiting? i hope they don't ask my cases anymore.

I graduated in 1995. At first it showed missing educational history, pending, then open. After a week the view application status disappeared. I have a friend who applied two weeks earlier, got her license in 6 weeks. She graduated in 2004 and was not required a list of her cases as well. Hope this info helps.

thank you for the information. i graduated 2011, i hope they don't ask my cases anymore and send me to school.
