Received board order via email , feeling overwhelmed!!!

Published

Hey guys I finally received my board order via email and it’s a lot more to it than what the lady told me over the phone ! When she told me that My board order stated

1) A penalty fee of $500

2) , 2 approved addiction courses

I specifically asked about probation and monitoring and she said there was nothing on there . I guess that really got my hopes up because when I receive my order I was expecting a short summary of those two things . I am feeling very overwhelmed to know that I am on probation for two years and will have to be in the monitoring program. I’m clean so monitoring really shouldn’t be a problem I guess I’m just scared of false positives .

I am thankful that I get to work with no restrictions and have an active license so I really should be concentrating on that part but it’s just the monitoring and the meetings and all of that has got me really overwhelmed. I have to be evaluated by a board approved addictionologist or treatment center So I’m really hoping my clean time will have a good effect on my outcome.

I’m sorry for the long post it’s just that y’all are very supportive and I know we’re all in this together!!!

Ugh! I can’t believe that you have to do monitoring after 3 1/2 yrs! Can you get a lawyer and go to the settlement conference to negotiate it? It just seems excessive after all of this time, especially when you have proof of your sobriety. May be expensive, but so is years of monitoring and probation. I can imagine how overwhelming it would seem after all of those years.

Yeah I was afraid another shoe would drop on ya. I wish to heck it didn’t. If you only have to do pee tests that’s not too bad besides the worry of a false positive and the expense / inconvenience. I agree with getting counsel and seeing if a lawyer can help at all but once you sign a monitoring agreement the negotiations are done. It’s all about the contract then I believe

I second what Spanked said about seeing if legal counsel would help get you out of monitoring, and I'm also sorry that there ended up being 'more to the story'. It might be a silly question, but if you already have your contract, why do still need to go to a settlement conference? (Pardon if I'm being naive here).

Anyways, as many others have said who have gone through monitoring (or are are still going through monitoring) IT IS DOABLE. I endured 5 years of it and yes the inconvenience, stress and cost of it all sucked, but you can do it! I realize how unfair it is for you to have you do it in the first place (after 3+ years of sobriety already), but I have a feeling they might not be taking your clean time seriously because it "wasn't on their watch"...if you catch my drift. They're probably making you do monitoring to PROVE you truly are sober and not "just saying so", which isn't fair, but none of these programs are.

Hopefully legal counsel can help, but if not, just take a deep breath and take it one day at time. Make sure you know what you can & cannot take to try to avoid false positives....that's really all that you can do. Good luck & I'm rooting for you!

Thanks y’all! I just got of an AA meeting and feel better!

Good!!! Panic and self loathing are not luxuries one can afford in monitoring. Keep your wits and totally follow the terms and conditions of this existence and you will get through this mess.

Wow why I’m not surprised that they would find a way to put monitoring on you. I remembered reading your post the other day about how you only had to pay the fine and do 2 classes. When I read that I thought wow maybe these “bon” not as bad as the one I’m in but this just proves me wrong. No matter how much evidence you have to prove you clean/ sober they don’t care. They just see another cash cow and that’s sad. Don’t let this get you down. Those 2 years will fly by. I have a few months left of mine. Just stay under the radar and stay 100% compliant. Don’t give them a reason to keep you any longer than what you have.

I need some support I have decided to become sober from alcoholism how does all of this work

Do you have any issues with your nursing license?

Specializes in RNC-OB,L&D,Antenatal testing, Oncology.

Rebecca, admitting you have a problem with alcohol is the first step, your second step is changing your profile name, you never know who is reading our posts.

Here you can find support from nurses that have gone or are going through issues with addiction. Maybe you can start with your own thread and let us know how we can help.

Wish you well

Rebecca , find an AA meeting, get a sponsor . Are you a nurse and does the board of nursing know? You can do this!

Here is a lawyer in MS that works with nurses. She is really good and easy to work with.
