Ok, over a month ago I register for all of my classes, got my financial aid squared away, and planned my semester.
I and a friend of mine signed up for the same ONLINE chemistry course. I know its online because it says ONLINE. It's through Dallas County Community Colleges Telecollege. It clearly states :
Lecture M/T/W/R/F/S/S Inet (meaning internet)
Lab M/T/W/R/F/S/S Inet (meaning internet)
Anyway, my friend couldn't find the book she needed for the class, and called the professor to ask where she could find. During her discussion she was informed the class meets at the Northlake campus for labs on Saturdays, and for every test. I cannot go to school on Saturday because I have children who play sports, and I am a single parent. Not to mention I am in Garland, and the Northlake Campus is in Irving, and thats a long way to me. Now it's two weeks before school, and all the good chemistry classes are going to be full. I wouldn't have sit on a class I couldn't take for a month if it would have stated we were to meet on Saturday's in Irving. My financial aid is based on me taking those four credit hours, and I need to take chem. I checked after I found this out, and it still states what I wrote above that its all internet. I don't think this fair at all. Not to mention that all but one of the 60 seats are taken in the class. What about the other people who signed up based on the fact it was all online, and won't find out until the first time they log on to class after buying all their books. I don't know what I want them to do, but I feel I have been treated unfairly, and something should be done on their part to fix the problem. What do you guys think?
I understand your frustration. I took A&P1 this summer at Grayson County College and it was 8 weeks instead of the normal 5 weeks. I didn't know this until class started and I got the syllabus. I registered online and it did not state anywhere that it was 8 weeks, not even on my class schdule. I was lucky because it really did not matter to me, but if I was someone who had made specific plans it could have been a big deal. These schools need to be more clear on what they expect and what is going on. I mean, my goodness they have a website and how hard would it be to post info!!!!!!
Update.......
I had emailed the professor of the class Friday....very concerned professor...... as he still has not returned my email.
I called the Dean of the Telecollege this morning who was really nice. He looked up the class, and was really concerned as it said no where that you would need to go to a particular campus. He was also really concerned as the class is completely full how many people will find this out after they have purchased books, and on the first day of class. He is going to contact the professor and see why is wasn't listed. Apparently it is up to the professors to list all the information about the class. He will try to work something out with her so I can satisfy the requirements without having to go on campus, or at least at a campus closer to me. If this is not possible he will try to find a comparable online course for me to take, or find a way to squeeze me into the already full classes at the campus close to me. He is supposed to call me back in the morning. I will let you guys know what happens.
My friend who also signed up for the class was like "Well they won't do anything". She just dropped the course, and will either take a spot in what is left on campus that she doesn't want or not take it at all. I think we were wronged here, and something should be done. Just like the poster said above how hard is it to post the information???? They need to be responsible for the information they give, and/or don't give.

Man, what a nightmare!!! I'm glad to see the Dean seems to be trying to do something for you. Good luck to you and I hope you get it done one way or another without inconveniencing you!

Any update????
I was just in a similar situation. By my husband being a truck driver and I have no family near, I had to drop the class and weep and moan. I had to realize that I have to register for the Chem. class for the spring semester and I hope and pray that I can get in the class. When you have kids, there are sacrifices that have to be made and I totally understand where you are coming from. I hope all goes well for you!!!
The dean was really nice, but in the end he said there were not fully online Chemistry classes in DCCCD. He offered to put me in another online science, but I need Chem. Anyway, I thanked him for his helped, and didn't hear anything for a couple of days. Then Friday I heard from the instructor, and they came up with a plan. For those who want to take it online you buy a lab kit for $170, and do the labs at your house.
I am just going to stick with the new class I signed up for because I can't afford to buy all my books (full load of classes), and this new lab kit.

Actually, I took microbiology with lab entirely online. It is done in some places. I know the college that I did my micro though offers an online chem w/lab. I guess they send out some sort of chem lab kit.
