Ok, over a month ago I register for all of my classes, got my financial aid squared away, and planned my semester.

I and a friend of mine signed up for the same ONLINE chemistry course. I know its online because it says ONLINE. It's through Dallas County Community Colleges Telecollege. It clearly states :

Lecture M/T/W/R/F/S/S Inet (meaning internet)

Lab M/T/W/R/F/S/S Inet (meaning internet)

Anyway, my friend couldn't find the book she needed for the class, and called the professor to ask where she could find. During her discussion she was informed the class meets at the Northlake campus for labs on Saturdays, and for every test. I cannot go to school on Saturday because I have children who play sports, and I am a single parent. Not to mention I am in Garland, and the Northlake Campus is in Irving, and thats a long way to me. Now it's two weeks before school, and all the good chemistry classes are going to be full. I wouldn't have sit on a class I couldn't take for a month if it would have stated we were to meet on Saturday's in Irving. My financial aid is based on me taking those four credit hours, and I need to take chem. I checked after I found this out, and it still states what I wrote above that its all internet. I don't think this fair at all. Not to mention that all but one of the 60 seats are taken in the class. What about the other people who signed up based on the fact it was all online, and won't find out until the first time they log on to class after buying all their books. I don't know what I want them to do, but I feel I have been treated unfairly, and something should be done on their part to fix the problem. What do you guys think?

That sucks :( I do know that for science classes you have to have labs at the campus, but they should have told you on the site what day it would be.

Your school should have made it clear that you would be required to physically be on campus for labs. Labs are an integral part of most science classes, and you cannot do the experiments online. You must physically be present in a laboratory to do the experiments. This seems pretty obvious, but to those who may have not taken any science class with lab, they may not be aware of this requirement. The school should have made it clear on the times you would be required to be on campus. When you take A&P, chemistry, and microbiology, there will be on-campus labs associated with these classes.

They do have A&P completely online. When I called and asked before signing up how they do the whole thing online I was told they somehow present the lab to you online. I know you cant really participate fully this way, but this is what they do with the A&P. I normally wouldn't take a science class online, but I took it a couple of semesters ago and made high B, and I am just retaking it for an A. I feel really comfortable with the material.

There are several campuses in DCCCD which are spread out over a very large metroplex area, and to say it's online, and then 2 weeks before the start of classes to tell us we have to go to a certain campus (which for some of us is not too close) is just not right. I just need to vent...

Honestly, I thought all internet classes met for labs and tests.

I agree..if they don't mention anything in there about when lab meets, how are people supposed to plan...I'd talk to the school. Not that they can do much about it now, but at least let them know where they are going wrong and how it's affected you!

Yea, i agree. They should let you know this stuff! I took BIOL over the net, then had my labs at Brookhaven. I was fully aware that the labs were on campus. I wonder what was different about yours? that sucks big time, tell them about your displeasure with this!

I am taking my A P II now on-line and my labs are also on-line via mainly an A&P lab CD. It is very time consuming because we cover so much material but you never know what they will test on so you need to know it all. I go on to campus once every two weeks for a lecture and the lab test. Both tests are taken on a school supplied laptop. They do this to make sure you are the person taking the test and that no cheating is being done. It did state on the course schedule that the course was on-line except for on-campus testing and they even supplied the testing dates. You could try talking to the instructor maybe there is a way you can take your lab and tests another day. Your school needs to make sure in the future they are more specific on their scheduling catalog. I am sure that is going to mess up a lot of other peoples schedules too.

None of mine ever did. BUT, if a science is 4 credits it would send up a red flag to me that it includes a loab. My on-line science classes have all been 3 credits.

But the OP shouldn't have been responsible to know that telepathically.

I took an ONLINE general chemistry with lab back in 2004 and it was COMPLETELY online. There is science classes that are COMPLETELY online with lab now a days. It is not anything new and all you have to do to learn about it is look at the distance learning thread on allnurses.

To the OP: This is not your fault if it DID NOT state that there were classes to be held at the school how would you to know? It should have said that when you registered but it didn't. I have noticed that many mistakes pop up during registration and are not corrected, please contact your instructor and registration because possibly you are not the only student to just find out about this. This could potentially help other students out. Hope you get everything figured out.

I have taken AP I and AP II fully online, the lab is virtual with a cd simulates what it would be to do lab in the classroom. I will also be taking micro in the fall and its also fully online. No meeting in the classroom at all.

ok...I looked for a back up chem class today, and being a couple of weeks before the start of class all the good instructors are taken. I have to have class and lab that start after 9:30am, and end in enough time for me to leave by 3pm so I can take, and pick my son up from school. I also can not do M/W/F because of other classes I am taking. So that left me with one class to choose from the the instructor is supposed to be awful. I am told you cannot understand her accent, and she often cannot understand your questions. That her attitude is bad, and she mocks you when you ask something.

I really need this class this semester. See why I am angry. I wouldn't have set with this class on my schedule for a month and let all the other possible classes fill up if they would have simply listed what was require
