What do you look like? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

j/k ;) Good luck!

Wow.. I have to be doing that in two weeks, but @ our nursing school we get to wear our swimming suits. Well, at least you guys will be getting more experience on how its going to be like in an actual hospital. Good luck with that!~

YOU PEOPLE ARE FREAKING ME OUT!

I don't want anyone to touch me. If I'm ever sick enough to require a sponge bath, I hope I will be out of it enough not to notice. I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE PEOPLE I KNOW TOUCHING ME...even in a bathing suit. In fact, I don't HAVE a bathing suit. I don't even wear shorts, except in the house where no one can see.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I should have been an accountant.

That is craazzzzyyyy! :angryfire

I would not do that for good grades nor license.

I would feel violated.

Think about it, b4 u do it.

I've never heard of that!!

That's insanity

Oh my goodness, just the thought of it ...very disturbing! :angryfire

In my opinion if u don't feel comfortable doing it, don't do it!

That's waaaaaaayyyyyyy too much :uhoh21: :)

I hope you'll make the best decision! :)

We did this in my nursing school 32 years ago. We were allowed to keep our underwear on. All I can say to you is if you have trouble having an "intimate experience" with someone you've known for barely a week, how are you going to deal with a patient you've just met 5 minutes ago? While I don't think it's necessary to do actual bed baths on each other I think there is an issue that you need to deal with--that is seeing people naked. It is very possible that you are going to observe a code blue where the patient is completely stripped while the code team is trying to save his life. You also need to prepare yourself for performing catherizations on both male and female patients. And, I am sure there are some experienced nurses reading this who have known of odd patients who delighted in exposing themselves to the nursing staff! Think about how you would deal with that if it happened to you.

How you react to these situations is how you define your professionalism.

The thing is that the relationship between classmates is a lot different than between nurse/patient. I bathe a lot of people at the hospital and have absolutely no problem with that. I like doing something that makes them feel better that they can't do for themselves.

But, I don't want to be undressed in front of my classmates, nor do I want to see them undressed. They're sort of in a gray area between a professional relationship (nurse/patient) and an intimate one (spouse or children).

Giving baths isn't that tricky and could very easily be taught in clinicals on real patients. That makes more sense to me.

I agree, Daytonite. However, I doubt many nursing students will volunteer to let me practice inserting caths on them.

I need a "Operation" game designed for nursing students. lol

That, my dear, is probably a million dollar idea! I can see it now. . .Donna, the Diseased Dolly--a nursing student's best friend! Specially designed reservoir for placing foley catheters! Comes with a decubitus ulcer for practicing dressing changes and turning techniques! By pushing a button she can be complaining or belligerant so you can test your therapeutic communication skills. Special padding designed for multiple needle sticks for practicing IVs and IM injections. She's a nursing student's best friend. :rotfl:

We got checked off on the baths. We had to wear shorts and tank top, and we did use real water - but voted to skip the soap.

My friend and I managed to wait until the end so everyone was busy with the next checkoff to do ours and it was ok. I think not having an audience and the fact that we have become friends made it much more comfortable. We had to videotape our proceedure, and we didn't do pericare just talked our way step by step through it.

So, I'm wondering now, was Donna, or Betsy, a consenting adult before she was used and abused in the name of science? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Umm actually I recall as a student nurse we had a fake member (you could view the prostate) and a fake female lower torso that we practiced foley insertion on. They were nicknamed "Dick and Jane." These things were OLD (circa 1960's). For the female torso, there had been a tube that at one time instructors used to fill the "bladder" when testing students. The female torso with no legs, just thighs open wide was kinda disturbing. :rotfl: :rotfl:
