Hello all,
It's almost that time of year again! I'm applying to the 2011 class which the application period begins this November 1st. We have two months to prepare our applications! Anyone else applying? I've seen the support the last year's class has with this sort of thread and I figured there should be one started for 2011 applicants. What is your TEAS score? GPA? A&P I grade? What were the averages that the 2010 applicants had and they are now starting the fall 2010 program?? Good luck!!!
Why did you apply to only one program?? I'm not sure how you would find out who's the more competitive school. Its pretty much hear-say unless you can call the schools themselves. They all teach the same material at pretty much the same time. As of a year ago the only diff between NVCC and GWCC is that NVCC has three exams and GWCC has five which makes it "easier" for you to raise your grade.
Help! I need help! I got accepted into the fall nursing program for Norwalk, but somethings come up, and I may need to switch with someone for the spring! I plan to email the program director asking for the switch, but I am afraid they may not allow something like that, and it will look bad for me! Does anyone know if you request a delayed start, if that will effect your application? I need to know by this Monday, so any advice will be SO welcomed! Plz, plz help me!!!!!! I'm desperate!
mattfd37, I only applied to the CC programs (GW 1st, NVCC 2nd) b/c I had only lived in CT for 3 months when I applied. Did all of my pre-requ's in New Hampshire when my husband got transferred here & they have totally different requirements so I had to adjust what I was taking. Now I have them all done and will be applying to BHSN, CC programs again & Southern as a generic BSN transfer student b/c it is less competitive than the ACE program. NH schools allow pre-requ's to be older than CT so I had to do some over again.
I actually could have applied to Bridgeport last year but didn't know about it. I did ask a nursing advisor at Gateway about which programs were more/less competitive within the CC system and she said she couldn't speak for the other programs.... and honestly, I have not gotten a straight answer on anything from them since the very start of this process. At this point I almost trust hearsay from actual students over what the admissions folks at GW say. I know that every school has it's pros and cons but I've never gotten the run around like I have at GW... and I have a BS so have other experience to speak from.
OK. The way you made it sound was that you only applied to GW.Don't expect it to get any better especially from GW. You get a lot of double talk. If the program was graded purely on clinicals I would give the program an A. BUTTTT we know its not so all I can say is its the same at every school you just have to pick your poison.
because you see more and get to do more, i.e its busier. Most procedures are done during the day therefore you have the opportunity to go watch. Most Dr's come in the morning so you can go in and listen and hear the game plan for the day. And this happens the entire shift. At night, most pt's are asleep by 8p. You don't have the same opportunities as you do during the day. Yes, Dr's and procedures still happen after 3p it's just not as many as day shift. I work 12hr shifts at one of the bigger hospitals so I say this with experience away from clinical.

From what I've been told by other RNs I know Naugatuck Valley is supposed to be very competitive & a very hard program. I got waitlisted the first time I applied but got in for this upcoming fall. Wish me luck!
