Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2010

Published

I was hoping to continue a great thread that I read last year, Ready to Apply CT Colleges 2009. It was a bunch of people looking to get into the CT Community Colleges nursing program for 2009-2010 academic year! They really banded together and answered questions for each other.

I was hoping to start the same thing for this year.

So, applications for the 2011-2012 year come out in just over a month. November 1st!!!

What has everyone been doing to prepare for the application process. What classes are you currently taking? Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? What was your score? What school is your 1st choice?

Speak up people!

Yes, that is how I understood it also. Basically, every school has their own wait list, and once it is exhausted (and more spots need to be filled) then they go to sister schools. Congrats on at least getting wait listed though! And good luck!

Well, its official... I've been waitlisted for the Gateway program. Got my letter in the mail today. I am devastated.

I wonder how far down the list they could get, I mean, how many people actually turn down acceptance?

There are 71 people on the waitlist, the letter says.

Anyone ever been waitlisted?

Can you tell me what number you were?

It says that the waitlist is for both fall admission and spring too... Im just so sad right now.

NOT to worry! Like I said before, I got waitlisted for NVCC via a letter. then several weeks later I recieved the 'kick me when I'm down' letter that said all spots were full at NVCC and my waitlist number was 18. Then several weeks after that the CCC office in Hartford called and said NVCC was full (which I thought , thanks for rubbing it in!!!) then she said I had a choice of NCC or GWCC. So hang in there! Also, someone said the waitlist wouldn't be that long since its a night program, many people who still have to work want a night class. It all comes out in the wash as they say. When you get in be prepared for a very fast semester.. we have 4 wks left and it feels like we just started!

Matt-

Thanks for the info on how quickly you were accepted off of your wait list, and congratulations!

However, does anyone have any idea on how quickly the Three Rivers wait list moves? For example, how far down students are getting called for the fall and spring semesters? Thanks everyone!

I don't know how relevant this information is because I know that the application numbers were way up this year over last year. Earlier in the application process I spoke with someone at Three Rivers in the admissions department. She said that by the time the semesters started last year they were able to accommodate all students that were accepted and/or waitlisted. I don't know how many students were on the waitlist last year, but I guess that means there's a good chance that quite a few students that were accepted do not end up enrolling. Good luck.

Thanks JBMmommy! I usually go with that or lite_brite85 for user names...can't forget the awesomeness that was the 80's!

Yes, I heard the same information as well. I just want to get into the Fall so badly lol! I do have classes lined up for the Fall in case that doesn't pan out--I have heard that the wait list was 13 kids last year and that they were all taken in as well as some from sister schools to fill the rest of the Spring semester. This year application numbers were WAYYYYYYY up, so I don't know if that means that because it is so competitive that less will refuse, or that more will refuse because of the economy and things like that. Ugh, I hate anticipation! I just wanted it all to be over with by getting the letter and now I'm still waiting, lol! Good luck to you in the Fall!

Hey guys, so I just picked up my mail from my parents house and was surprised to see a manilla envelope from the community colleges since I had received the letter a few weeks back stating that I didn't meet all the requirements. So get this, I actually got accpeted to my first choice school... Naugatuck Valley. However, I've already been accepted at BHSN and have since sent in my matriculation fee. I am really excited to be going to BHSN but NVCC is literally a 2 minute drive from my house, versus a 35 minute commute to BHSN. Not to mention NVCC is cheaper. UGH, I almost feel like this was a curse because it is making me second guess my decision. With Bridgeport Hospital's program, I can do the accelerated option and graduate in December of next year. That means I'll be out in the workforce making money sooner, and there is potential to be offered full tuition reimbursement for signing a 2-year contract with the hospital prior to graduation. What would you guys do? I know NVCC is suppose to have a good program, and I feel lucky for even getting in.

Hi Everyone,

Are there any students here that's currently attending GWCC and entering NUR201 in the Fall? I would like to get a student's perspective of the program as I am applying to return to NCC second year program but I am also wondering if I should transfer to Gateway as it seems like the class schedules might be a bit more flexible (Single Mom). I also searched the course schedule for Sept 10 but there's not a schedule for NUR 201.....what's with that...is that an error or....are they still working on the schedule? Please if anyone can give me some feedback I would greatly appreciate.

Ladybug,

If doing the acclerated program and possible employment with Bridgeport Hospital is very important to you then stay with BHSN. Just curious, do you know anything about Bridgeport hospital? What are their specialties? What unit do you want to be on? Do they have they have that type of unit. Is it well respected? Do you get to choose what unit you get to go to if you get hired after graduation. Have you been there or know anyone that has stayed there? Just some things to think about. I have a friend who graduates in May from NVCC and loves it. The program is hard and the instructors are excellent as are all the CCC's. I love Gateway and its instructors. Next semester we will have the opportunity to go to either Midstate, Middlesex, Waterbury, L&M and the NH hospitals. Does BHSN do that or do they stay within the hospital? That might be something to think about also only IF your clinicals are just primarily at BH.

Matt,

where have you guys been doing clinicals this year?

half the class is at Yale and the others are at St Rays.

matt

how many students are in your class?

44 now and 4 more (LPN's) when third semester begins.
