Reaction to mosquitoe bite?

One summer, about thirteen years ago, I went on a camping trip with my mother and sister. Both my sister and I ended the trip with over 100 mosquito bites on EACH of us. No joke.

Her bites went away without a problem but I had a similar reaction to what your daughter is having. My bites were swelling to the size of golf balls, were hot, and itchy for days.

I had to take an oral medication as well as use a (medicated) lotion on the bites themselves.

Still, after all these years, my bites will still sometimes cause such a reaction.

I'm wondering if they might just be getting infected. It usually takes a while for them to go away on me, but they're never there a week later, you know? I'm gonna put peroxide and neosporin on them tonight to see if that helps. If they don't look better in the am, then I'll give her pediatrician a call.

I was just wondering of others have this kind of reaction to mosquitoe bites or if it's common.

Really??? WOW! That's awful. I'm glad to hear that it is possible for a person to have such a reaction, but hate that you and my daughter are the ones that HAVE the reaction.

So were yours infected? I started wondering if that may be the case with my daughter. I'm going to put peroxide on them and then some Neosporin tonight and see how they look in the morning.

If you have ever seen an Englishman who has met our Aussie Mozzies for the first time you would never ask if there is such a thing as an allergic reaction. Seems that some people when first exposed have a really bad reaction.

On the other hand there a lot of things carried by Mosquitos - at least here there are so it is well worth while havig them checked out.

I got nailed big taime a few weeks back camping. I had several bites and I scratched them to the point of excoriation (they itch!! :chuckle ). One on my leg was about the size of a quarter, but they've gone away now. Strange.

Worse yet, we had a girl and her friend get West Nile that the doctors suspect attacked their CNS. One was paralyzed from the waste down, and the other had to have surgery on her neck. Unconfirmed, but what are the chances they both get West Nile and get such horrible CNS complications.

I have always been allergic to mosquitos. When I was a little girl my first experience was brutal. I had to the countryside on vacation when I encountered massive mosquito bites. The bump swelled up to the size of a Cherry tomato (I kid you not). I had to be taken to the doctor and he prescribed an oral antibiotic and cream. After that because I had scratched intensly I ended with lots of scaring on my legs and arms. I now take extra care because I am so afraid of it happening again.

Is it possible for a person to have a bad reaction to mosquitoe bites?
We got back from camping over a week ago. While camping, me and my 5 year old got bit up terribly despite all the deet filled repellant we used. We always get bit up bad. Of course, my bites were completely gone in a matter of days.
Hers on the other hand are getting huge! They are still itching her terribly (she hasn't been outside at all to get bit up since getting home, so I know they're not new) and they are getting bigger. And real red.
I'm just wondering if it's possible for people to be allergic to them.
BTW, I've been giving her benedryl by mouth for the itching, but how long must I continue that? I'm thinking of taking her to the peds tomorrow to see if they can do something.

that reminds me of when my daughter got cellulitis from bug bites. they got really red, really swollen, and hot. She was on oral antibiotics and topical cream to kill the itch and pain.

I forgot to mention - we use Tea Tree oil on the bites and it seems to work a treat in stopping the itch.

This same thing happened to my daughter a week ago. The bite on her leg got very swollen, red, hard, and hot. Looked like an infection. The back of her leg was swollen 2X normal. I took her to the Dr. and she said she has been seeing about 2 kids a day for a few weeks now with the same thing. She said it should be fine but gave me an antiobiotic just in case it got worse and told me to use benadryl for itching prn. So apparantly this is normal!! I've never seen anything like it so it scared me. I thought it was a spider bite or something. It did look bruised a few days after the swelling and everything went away. Very weird.
