Rate your experience at your respective school!!!

I am currently in my final semester of ADN nursing at New Mexico State University - Carlsbad. I must say it is the hardest thing I have ever done but I have loved every minute of it! My class started with over 40 and now in the final stretch there are less than 16 of the original students left. Our professors are wonderful, brutal, but still wonderful! They expect each and every one of us to go above and beyond in every single clinical, test, and will call us out if we are not actively participating in lecture.

Some of my class mates say this is a horrible program but I personally believe it is only because the course load is so strenuous and the teacher are so demanding. Doesn't that make you a better nurse in the end?? Due to the high level of expectation by our professors I have never felt unprepared for clinical and I am able to carry on educated conversations with all of the doctors and nurses in clinical.

My ultimate goal is to be in a CRNA program within 3 years and I feel like this program is building the foundation for me to get there. Our NCLEX pass rate is damn near perfect for students taking it for the first time (something like >98%). Hospitals around my state and even in neighboring states know that a diploma from NMSU-C carries a lot of weight. We do our critical care and emergency room clinical at a level one trauma center in Lubbock Texas and I have talked to staff nurses and they tell us that they feel more confident with us then their own BSN students and other ADN/BSN students who travel there for clinical.

I know this has become a rant but I am just so proud of my school! If anyone lives in the southwest united states and isn't afraid of a challenge I highly recommend New Mexico State University @ Carlsbad.

    My college was consistently rated in the top three for baccalaureate and graduate programs nationally, year after year. It was awesome. It had a wait list every year. An incoming university president* closed it.

    My grad school was one of those other top three most years, also awesome. Go, Huskies! UW rocks! They also have an awesome undergraduate program.

    *He just died and I hope he had lousy nursing care.

    You have no idea how evil this man was, and how the profession (nationwide) suffered from the loss of this excellent school. My point was that if he did, he was partly to blame, that's karma. So sue me.

    I can't praise my program enough. I went to American River College (a community college in Sacramento, CA) for my ADN. I love, love, LOVED it. Nursing school was fun for me and I made so many lifelong friends. We started with 40 students and I think we ended with 27 or 28. Our instructors are top notch and we have a great reputation amongst area hospitals and clinical facilities. We currently have a 95% pass rate and I wouldn't be surprised if it's increased this last year. It was an amazing experience and I learned so much from my time at ARC. My plan is to go for my BSN at Sac State's RN to BSN program while I work and then apply to become a nurse in the Air Force Reserve. My dream is to become a flight nurse!
