Anyone else get caught up in this nonsense on the net or real life? Even people who are just anti-psych/med in general?? It drives me crazy.
On another forum people were discussing this TomKat (Tom Cruise) business and a couple mentioned the Scientology aspect. Well, I guess I can't avoid this issue, so I threw out a few comments about it. :chuckle Two people begin walking all over me about Tom's "religion" and what he and Katie Holmes do is their business. Fine by me, I was just pointing out the CoS issue. Then after a few exchanges they say "Scientology? I don't know anything about it" Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
She was claiming how it helped his dyslexia. Oh boy. Why do people argue about things they no nothing about?
I agree with Sharon, carole, et. al. I think demeaning others' religious beliefs is unfair.
However, I find Hollywood's embrance of religion (be it Kabalah or Scientology or whatever) very superficial, to say the least. Maybe that is just me. I am very skeptical and very disgusted with most of them.
Scientology is a cult. Period. It's not a religion. L. Ron Hubbard is acutually quoted as saying that at the fastest way to make money is to start 'a religion'.
Be careful what you label as a cult. Even Christianity can be labeled as a cult.
After all, if a Christian described their sacred ritual of eating bread and drinking wine as symbolic of consuming the body and blood of their savior, there are those that might view it as a type of cannabalism, extremely barbaric and primitive. Especially when some sects believe that after the blessing, the bread and wine is actually transformed into the body and the blood.
Was it Oral Roberts or Billy Graham that said, that G-d would take him away if so many millions were not raised by a certain date for a project? It sounds terribly greedy to me.

absolutely right. Just because it's "mainstream" does not mean it's not cultlike or wrong in another light or opinion.
:)
The first thing that my hubby pionted out was that he had a tight grip on her arm and was leading her around-maybe to make sure she stayed within the Rules of Scientology. I don't know, but I think this is a sad thing that Katie, a young and upcoming actress who has idolized T.C. all her life, is going to be influenced greatlly by him. We all have to make our own choices, but there is definitely something to be said about age and influence. Maybe he is even hitching up with her to help his career. I never like him much anyway....

I'm trying to respect everyone's opinions here......but this is getting ridiculous. It's very absurd how people can just make up theories and then find the "proof" to justify those theories. We don't know anything about Tom Cruise really, or his life with or without Katie Holmes.
You can't believe everything you read. And even less of what you hear. (isn't that the old saying)
I have pretty much dropped the "People"-like mags and am spending a lot more time on reading that feeds my mind and soul.
I don't care what Tom Cruise and "whats her name" are up to, whether this is a "stunt" relationship or not. I DO care, however, when a prominent Hollywood figure comes forward, denouncing another's treatment of a severe case of depression. He is hardly qualified to speak on this with any semblance of authority. He needs to stick with what he does know, how to be an actor. Leave the issue of PPD to those who suffer it and their care providers.
That is why I say, drop "People" and "Entertainment Tonight", and pick up a good book instead. Or just say "no" to the fascination and adoration of Hollywood and its figures/symbols. There are so many other things that need our attention.

I personally don't know anything about Scientology. I will be the first to admit that, I don't want to harp on anyone religion. That's a personal choice, but I do think that with Katie's age versus Tom's, that she will be greatly influenced by him because of his status and her idolizing him since a young age.
Whatever they want to do is their choice-
But its not right that he would come down on Brooke about the PPD. IT's just not right, if he doesn't want people to criticize his religion, then he needs not to criticize what other people are doing that goes against it.
I searched for information on Scientology and couldn't find anything concrete, no values, no mission statement, nothing. It was weird. They did, however, invite to an 'audit' costing more than I will spend at a White Sox game taking my family of four and my brother's family of four -- that's a lot of beer and hotdogs! (I glanced at the figure; it was somewhere around $500.00) and this fee is not a great amount of money to the TomKat's of the world but we're all a little more real here.
Well, here's an overdose of information on the Church of Scientology. http://www.xenu.net/ I just stumbled upon this today, it was posted on another forum...this stuff is just too weird.

So very, very, very true Deb. While I have come out on record as saying that I adore Tom Cruise, that adoration refers to his acting and movies only. I don't follow his personal life all that closely or that of any other celeb. I didn't care when he and Nicole Kidman broke up and I don't care about this thing with Katie Holmes. And I detest all the attention that is focused on the silliest things like Paris Hilton, Russell Crowe, or "Brajelina".
I hate those ET like shows, Access Hollywood, etc. (although I will admit that I think Billy Bush is such a cutie).

Laura, I am sorry, but, that is hardly a place to go to learn about Scientology. It's an ANTI-scientology website. It is kind of like trying to learn about the Catholic religion from anti-Catholics. I don't think the information would be useful or helpful.
Read some of L. Ron Hubbard's books and decide for yourself if it's all that or not. That is what I recommend. Critical thought is challenging yourself to read and/or learn about something even if you don't understand or support it----- and that would be learning from more than a source so vehemently opposed to it. ("stepping out of my comfort zone" I call it).
Now, I am NOT pro-scientology, make no mistake. I have a lot of problems with all forms of organized religion. But if I want to learn about a given subject, I am not going to take all my information from an source so opposed to it.

I agree with Caroladybelle and katyosu2006 completely. Regardless of your feelings about Tom Cruise, none of you have the right to label his religion as a cult or declare it invalid.
