rant Bulletin Board...ugh!

Published

I've had the same bulletin board all year, and it's cute. The board is HUGE/LONG. The principal puts a yearly calendar on one end. The other end is for the office/health office. I just did a cute healthy kids theme that the secretary helped with, and it worked. Today secretary gets in new border and background paper, and excited to do a new bright board for the Summer....yes I said Summer. I rudely commented that I was going to be here this Summer, but she was, and that would be a great idea if she wanted a new, happier board. I then said, I didn't intend to change the board yet. I even feel like it's good for a few more years. Only one grade passes by it daily, and they'll be in a new building next year. So next year, the kids who are on the hallway will be seeing it for the first time. I guess I should be more eager to decorate, but at this time of year....that just wasn't on my list of things to get done. I owe the secretary a huge apology, and lucky she didn't punch me. She's so nice, and I feel terrible about it.

Bring her some roses!

I had worked very hard on a bulletin board a few years back and was very proud of it. Apparently the letters weren't straight enough for a teacher and I found her one day with a yard stick fixing my entire board! I went off on her and felt guilty afterwards. So, I understand!

I think it's pretty funny that hospital nurses complain about things like high staffing ratios, exhaustion from no breaks on a 12 hour shift and still not being able to get out on time, etc. etc. School nurses complain about bulletin boards......just sayin....

What is funny about it? What is it that you are "just sayin"?

I truly hope that this was not meant to be as offensive and demeaning as it comes across.

Would you rather we complain about no bathroom breaks. No lunch. No backup. Covering multiple buildings. High student to nurse ratio? just saying.....

I was "just sayin" that I guess I feel pretty lucky that as a school nurse I don't have the really difficult issues that I had when I worked in ICU. Sorry, didn't mean to be offensive or demeaning.

It's not really the bulletin board she's complaining about. It's the fact someone is creating more work for her when it isn't needed and she feels it's a waste because hers could work a lot longer. However the secretary didn't know that as a lot of school employees would have been thrilled to change it again with new paper and border (me NOT being one of them). Maybe apologize and bring her a candy bar. ?

One school I was at had a small bulletin board outside my office door and I left it blank. I am not creative, didn't have the supplies and didn't have pintrest to give me ideas. Plus I just didn't really care. My door said "NURSE" so good enough for me. Well the principal asked all the teachers to decorate their bulletin boards outside their door. I thought well I'm not a teacher so...? I did not. Well the teacher beside me asked if she could do it for me after a couple months and I'm like go for it. She said it bothered her. LOL! She did a simple one and it stayed like that the whole time I was there!

I have two bulletin boards in my office - one is decorated from the previous SN, and the other was totally blank until two weeks ago when the kids were out on class trips and i had LITERALLY nothing else to do ?

Bulletin boards are annoying to keep up, so good for you for even completing the task!!
