I am just curious as to how many of you are randomly drug tested on a normal basis? I am fully aware of the pre-employment screening and that is no problem but i do smoke weed on occasion and i was just wondering if i would ever be able to do that again as a nurse. I understand most of you on here look at this the same as alcohol but that is just far from the case. If someone smokes after a shift to relax and is not coming to work high that has no effect on their performance on the job. So if you have been randomly drug tested how often? and was it truly random?
i don't need your sarcasm because if you truly think all tests are random you are just ignorant to the fact people are profiled on a normal basis. I simply want to know if its a common occurrence. Thank you for your comment though.
Well gee thanks for referring to the people who responded as "ignorant". Since I was randomly tested, I wonder how they profiled me and decided I needed to be tested?

It's not sarcasm, it's a fact. I read all of your posts and you are trying to justify smoking weed while being a person who carries a professional license. It does not matter if the tests are random or not. If someone is being targeted, I'm sure it's because of comments made to other coworkers. People often have loose lips and divulge their personal lives to coworkers. It makes it's way up the ladder.
You are the naive one here, who thinks that smoking a drug that stays in your system for 30 days has no affect on your day to day life. Nurses are in charge of people's lives. Nurses are not cashiers or food service workers, they save people, help deliver healthy babies, help people cope with devastating illness, care for those who cannot care for themselves. Nurses have some of the most important jobs in this world. Would you want your surgeon smoking weed, what about that firefighter who comes to save your family and put out the fire at your house? Do you want your police officer's reaction time diminished when he's saving you from a shooter that comes in the ER? What about our military guys? Do you want them smoking weed and trying to take out the next terrorist that comes to blow up buildings in our country? Seriously. Think about what you are talking about here.
I'm tired of hearing people say how weed needs to be legal and the world is a better place if we just all smoked some. I have a terrible, chronic pain condition, and have never considered it. I hear it helps people in my situation, but to me, being a nurse and helping those that suffer like I do is more important. If I felt I needed to smoke, I wouldn't become a nurse or any profession where my cognitive and physical skills would be impaired.

Did anyone say "all tests" were random?
Just what exactly do you want here? For everyone to respond that NO ONE has ever been tested, that they've never heard of anyone being tested, that they are tested and it's random, they are tested and it's NOT random?!
Sorry, but the facts are as follows: You may work 30 years as a nurse and never be tested without good advance notice. OR you may hurt yourself at work or be involved in an incident for which every person present is required to be tested. There may be suspicion of diversion on your floor and narcotics counts off once or frequently enough for everyone on that shift to be tested. You may be RANDOMLY tested as part of a particular facility's protocol. All of the above happen somewhere in this country, probably on a daily basis. Will it happen to you? NONE of us can say for sure. It's up to YOU to decide if you want to risk it. If you ever test positive, bad things are coming. Do understand that.
I was not profiled. I was injured. That could happen to any one of us at any time. And you will be tested if that happens. Go ahead and roll the dice.
You obviously have not done any recent research....Saying that cognitive and physical skills is wrong. If someone were to smoke before work you might have an argument. You act like if someone smokes they will be high as long as it is in your system. I honestly question your education in anatomy and psychology if you believe this. THC effects your brain not your fat cells. If something is stored in your fat it is no longer influencing your psychological activity. I am not on here to argue your opinion of weed but in my opinion what people do in their spare time is none of my business. If it is effectlng someones performance because they are coming to work right after smoking thats one thing, but if it calms someone and provides a safe alternative to alcohol or any other drug it is fine by me no matter what profession.
You may have not been it could have been computer generated. i was simply trying to figure out standard procedure. I just wanted to be educated on what i am considering for a career not be fed false information that people were more than likely taught in a high school drug safety class. People need to realize that marijuana has benefits and it makes me upset when people look at it the same as alcohol.
