did you have to raise money for your graduation?

Published

HI, i'm a new member future nurse graduating this December

at my school we have a Pinning Ceremony for which we have to pretty much make it happen. We have created groups to raise money, get invitations, decorations, etc.

It's very different and new .

We are sort of freaking out because we want it to be special I mean hello it's the day when u say I'm done with all this school tortune :) ...

I guess I just want to know if we're the only ones going through this or any other people out there went throught the same.

What would you suggest as a way to raise money for this ?

It's so weird...but we're hoping to do our best and have that pinning ceremony be the best

Just wanted to share and ask for opinions , ideas, anything

We had to raise money for our pinning, as with every nuring class in our school. The college has a separate commencement which they foot the bill...but it is neither special or personal.

To raise money, we had a couple bake sales in the cafeteria, we also had a jewelry sale, a book sale (which we sold our books to the underclassmen and donated the money to the class account). Our biggest money maker was doing concession stands for a Wizards and Chiefs game. We had a spectacular pinning and still had money left over to have a catered lunch for the class and faculty, as well as donate to charity.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

We have to pay for our own pinning ceremony too. We are selling t shirts and sold stethoscopes and other clinical supplies to the beginning nursing class.

We are currently in the process of raising money. Since this is our first year of nsg school we had our first sell last week. We sold burritos for breakfast. Next week we will be working a consession stand at the county fair (it is sooo country out here). I don't know what else. At this point I'm not involved in bringing in money.

wow, thats almost sad......we had a big university ceremory (to which almost no one came) a more personal nursing department ceremony (still pretty big, in a 1200 person auditorium). We raised money, but used it for a private party (not univeristy affiliated so people could do whatever they wanted; ie- drink) I didn't go but I heard it was nice.

We also raised money for our pinning ceremony. We made A LOT of money by selling Home Interiors candles, the little ones in the jars. We sold them for regular price during a month the company was offering them on sale so the Decorating Consultant was able to give us a larger portion of the profit. It's a real easy way to make money and the class didn't have to put up any money up front.

We also went to the dollar store, purchased a bunch of cheap Easter toys and put together a really nice Easter basket. We decorated it up really nice and sold chances on it for $1 each to other students on campus (you could do something similar for Halloween or Christmas). We also raffled off a cheap DVD player for $1 per chance. We made enough money to pay for our ceremony, take the whole class & instructors out to eat, bought gifts for our instructors and all of the speakers at our ceremony, and still have some left over. But I'd say 75% of the money came from the candle sale.

Ohhhh yeahhhh. We had a couple of bake sales, sold old uniforms and stethescopes to underclassmen, had a Beef and Beer. We made a good amount of money and had a really nice graduation.

We did it throughout the year, via our nursing club activities. There was always money in our treasury for each graduation ceremony. We voted on the amount we would spend ahead of time, based on prior year's costs. Anything over, we had to work tail off to earn it. Doing it this way, we had plenty of money by the time graduation hit...having planned ahead all that time. We did lots of things like bake sales, car washes, candy sales. If you plan ahead, you only have to do things here and there to get the job done.

Were the 1st class who is responsible for paying for, organizing, etc their pinning or graduation ceremony. Since we were the 1st spring class and were funded by J&J, there was no $ set aside for us for all these things. Even worse, we have no real graduation ceremony until like May or June, which is 5 mos after we are scheduled to graduate! We'll probably just end up having a party at someone's house, but still, I feel bad that my parents have to wait sooo long to see some sort of fanfare!
