So Im talking to this guy and he is a stockkeeper at a hospital and he said the dreaded words "LPN'S are being phased out" ugh! It bothers me that most people who make these comments aren't even in the nursing a profession. Sorry guys but I had to vent! Its soooo annoying

Yes some facilities don't use LPN's or are working toward phasing them out but there are plenty of facilities that use LPN's. Just like some hospitals won't hire RN's with an associate degree. We are all nurses and all have a place in healthcare. My facility will no longer hire LPN's but we have a couple on staff that are not being pushed out and I'm glad. My favorite nurse in the entire facility is an LPN, she's been a nurse forever and I've learned so much from her!

When people make the "LPNs are being phased out" comments, they aren't even thinking about the many nursing homes, private duty cases, home health companies, physical rehab centers, jails, prisons, psychiatric facilities, group homes, developmental disabilities firms, clinics and doctors offices that still heavily utilize LPNs. They're only thinking about acute care hospitals, where (unfortunately) many LPNs have been phased out in the US.

LOL! He is probably one of those family members that all of us hate dealing with-intrusive at the bedside of his loved ones, leading everyone to believe he is "in health care" but not revealing his true avocation .A wiki MD....A Masters of Google...

Well, if some stockboy at a hospital said it, it must be true. Guess I should just quit before it's too late. Oh well, I had a good run.....
Seriously, people like this stockkeeper aren't worth expending the energy trying to correct them. They aren't interested in a debate or in the truth. Just smile and nod.

My Mom, the waitress, my high school teacher, the neighbor, etc - all told me not to go for my LPN that they were being phased out. That was in 1985. I see not much has changed in nearly 30 years

I'm a new RN and I work with several LPNs in LTC. Honestly, the LPNs do everything that the RNs do, and, I have the same respect for the LPNs as I do for the RNs.
