"Job Filled".... What?

Hello Everyone,

So on Friday afternoon I had a fantastic interview for a nursing job. The manager said she would make a decision very soon and would let me know on Tuesday, (as Monday is a stat) and apologized that I would be waiting over the long weekend. Today is Monday and I just so happened to check the job posting and it says the job has been filled! How can this be?

So my thoughts are

1. They awarded the job to someone else - sometime on Friday after my interview?

2. They have decided to hire me - but I haven't received a job offer or accepted?

3. They marked the position as filled in error - this seems to be a very unlikely error

Please help me figure out what most likely is going on, I am in agony

At the facility where I was hired, I received emails that said I was no longer being considered (after multiple applications, glowing references, stunning resume, phone and personal interview), and then ended up getting a job offer two weeks later. Take heart! A lot of bigger hospitals and corporations have automated systems that don't always post and send the most accurate information. Good luck!!!

So what happened OP?

Where I work, job postings are merely formalities. Jobs are already filled before the posting is made. People are interviewed, which is insulting and a huge waste of time and money.

Admittedly my facility is small.

Hopefully the OPs situation is different.

This seems to be a regular practice, especially in government jobs. My husband has taken many days off to apply for a position with the city over the years. It has ALWAYS been filled by someone in-house.

I saw this happen when I worked for the state. Of course, most supervisors are smart enough to maintain a solid shield. I was even invited to sit on a three-person panel for one interview. Interesting experience, but I knew it meant the kiss of death for the applicant as I was the only union member in the unit and an outsider to the supervisor's little buddy group. It looks good, though, to include everyone in the decision making process!

Every system has its inefficiencies and ways around its loftier goals, I guess...

A lot of facilities post open jobs that are only open for a certain window to keep down on the number of applicants.

For example, they'll post the job for 2 weeks or a month and just use that pool of applicants.

Also, they probably made their decision Friday and haven't gotten around to informing everyone of the outcome yet. They may be calling the rejects first.

Take a deep breath, I can completely understanding how you are feeling.

I am going through something similar.

Often they will only post a job for a limited amount of days, even more so if they feel like they have interviewed the "right" candidate.

Try to stay positive, or if you can't stay positive, try to stay busy.

It very well may be that you go the job and the HR department just hasn't gotten the offer together yet.

I literally interviewed on Friday as well and I am anxiously waiting by the phone

Good luck to you

I went in for an interview. I checked and the job was removed from the website the next day. They emailed me that following Monday for my references ( I went in for the interview on a Friday).
