"Big Name" Nursing School?

Published

I was wondering if in your personal opinions/experiences, is getting a degree at a highly regarded private nursing school worth it?

I attended a well known school last year, and decided to transfer to a lesser known school. I have been thinking a lot about this lately, and hope I did put myself at a disadvantage.

Thanks for all feedback! :)

As a general rule, the reputation of a school is more local. Sure, something like an Ivy League name on a resumé can help someone who, say, went to law school, but in nursing it's not going to mean the same. Instead, consider what the reputation is like at the facilities near the school- what kind of impression have the students and faculty made on the staff and management? Let's just say that there are quite a few unfavorable views of the school that attends clinicals at my facility- students sleeping in the staff lounge, disrespectful to staff, etc.

Money wise? Ease of hiring? Quality of education?

The school I am at now offers a good nursing program, and is well known in the area. However, it doesn't that quite the same name impact as my other school did. It's not like it was an Ivy League or anything, just a good school. It was WAY more expensive as well.
