Quitting smoking

Published

Hi everyone i recently just quit smoking, i am going on my 4th day of not smoking. I smoked for 10 years from 15 to 25 and this is my first time trying to quit. It isnt so bad until after i eat i am so used to reaching for a cigarette i have to do anything and everything i can untill that feeling passes. Also at work on break im so used to going to have a smoke with everyone now i just hang out inthe break room where no smoking is aloud studying or just doing something else a few times i just didnt take abreak because i wasnt sur eif i could handle it. Has anyone had an experience with quitting smoking, any success, any advise. I think hearing some stories about other people success might giv eme some encouragement

Thanks everyone

I had good luck using the Nicotine patch. I also had to give up a few things until the real strong cravings subsided....ie: coffee, cold beer etc. Good luck!

Congrats on kicking the habit :)

I've always had best success rates when I try quitting cold turkey - I do better than with substitutes.

To each his own I suppose - I still haven't kicked it. I think I'm using the NCLEX as an excuse/prop ("I'll quit as soon as I get through the boards"), because quite frankly, I don't think I want to quit.... yet. I smoke when I drink or when I'm on long drives or have too much time on my hands. I don't really smoke because I dig the cravings or withdrawl stuff.

Bizzare, yes?

But I'm confident that the day I want to quit, I'll wake up that morning and know it.

I do think I am gaining weight because of it so I need to start watching that.

Gee I did forget to mention that...lol. Before I weighed 155#, and I'm 6'2" tall. No matter how much, or little I ate, I weighed 155#. Tried to gain and couldn't. Within 8 mths of quitting smokeing, I weighed 230#. I actually ate far less then I was, but gained a huge amount in that time. Now no matter how much I eat, or don't eat, I weigh 220#. It's as if smoking reset the weight setting on my body. I don't look bad, but could stand to lose 20, but I can even do a juice fast for 2 weeks, and eat vegan for 6 mths and not lose anything. Kinda weird actually. Eat all I want and still don't gain though.

Good luck to you. I'm at 14 months smoke free.

Here's what worked for me after smoking for about 10 years and trying to quit many times (hypnotherapy, medication, patches and gum... tried them all)...

I quit cold turkey after reading this site (and with no withdrawl, & very little cravings). This did it for me. It will be worth your time and health to follow their directions:

Also, I've used this site as support during the few times I craved: http://quitnet.com/

Again, best wishes. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again!

this past november was 20 years...a lot of people think i never smoked but i still have sob sometimes..

i quit a lot of times before it 'took' a lot of this is thinking of your self as a non-somoker..brushing teeth and then doing something after a meal is good also it breaks the feeling that a meal isn't really over until you have had a cigarette

if you get a real craving sometimes taking deep breaths [don't overdo] call someone on the phone,

i think you will remember this as a great decision in your life
