This is the first time in my life I have had a Monday-Friday, 9-5 job and I quit! Since I started, I have been yelled at by one of the other nurses on an almost daily basis for things that were certainly not worth yelling at anyone for...once she came into my office and screamed at me because I wasn't getting patients back fast enough...she failed to notice that all of my providers rooms were full and I had no where to put any more patients. She also yelled at me for not sending lab and x-rays to a specialist for a patient even though the appointment was scheduled a month before I started working there. I was yelled at for telling a patient to call 911 when he called me complaining of crushing chest pain and shortness of breath...he coded about five minutes after he arrived in ER...I'm glad I didn't tell him to come to the clinic! The office manager, the two nurses I work with the most, and one of the PAs are "best friends" and there have been five or six times they have come in in the morning and called me into the office and said..."We were talking last night" and they would list things I do wrong...if I ever had a concern or complaint about what one of them did, I was told that I needed to pay more attnetion to what I was doing and less to what they were doing. I was also "written up" for not doing a bunch of paperwork one day...the office manger failed to notice that I was off on that day and when I pointed it out I was told that I needed to make sure things got taken care of anyway... The other two nurses have a bad habit of taking hour and a half lunches and coming in late. I was told (by the office manager) that I was not to eat anyone the food from drug reps or have a snack while I was on the clock...when I pointed out that one of the other nurses does it all the time, I was told that she is a single mother and sometimes doesn't have time to eat at home and that she has trouble making ends meet so sometimes that was the only time she eats during the day. The other nurses are also allowed to leave during the day for things like dentist appointments...I was told to schedule things on my day off or over my lunch hour.
So...I found another job and gave my two weeks notice. When I did my exit interview, the doctor who owns the clinic told me he knew that people were being unusually hard on me and treated me pretty poorly. He also said that he knew that having the nurses, the office manager, and the PA being so tight knit caused a lot of problems and that the nurse before me resigned because of it. He said that there is a huge amount of favoritism for the other two nurses but that they are just so good at what they do that he often looks the other way...and he knows the office manager was often just "downright mean" to me, but that revenue has improved since she started, money for supplies has gone down a lot, and he just can't affor to lose her. He also said that once I got "in the groove" that I was a pretty model employee and he really appreciated that I was always the first one there in the morning and that I never left until everyone was either done with everything or was at a point that whatever they had left was something that they could only do themselves.
I start at the new job next week...I am going to make $3 more an hour and will only be working three days a week. I'm still pretty angry about the job at the clinic...I have honestly never been treated like that at any other job...I'm pretty disappointed that the doctor ignores so many of the problems there. The nurse who is replacing me is the office manger's roommate...

I wouldn't be angry in the least... You have to let it go.
They are in the wrong. Sometimes that proverbial door closes, so that we may enter through majestic gates.
It is so sad that ther MD sees dollar signs, when in fact those will be fleeting if he can't keep good staff like you. There is a learning curve for everyone, and I'm sorry that they didn't give you time for yours to develop. Don't waste your tears, or anger on them... They are not worth it.

For your own sanity, I'm glad you are out of there. You don't need that kind of abuse. Sounds like a toxic place to work. Good luck with your new job!

I am very happy you got out of that situation. I used to work in a private office (for 6 years) until it merged with a clinic (1 year). That was the worst. The staff that came with the clinical physicians had the same attitudes. (taking long lunch breaks, taking time when they should be in the office working to go shopping, limitless 20 minute cigarrette breaks, etc, etc) I was outnumbered and exhausted with all the extra work and no appreciation. No office manager was ever there. The position was perpetually being filled by people who never showed up in the actual office. Finally I left. The clinic portion of the office was dissolved a year later. Hmmm, I wonder why?
Yes I know that not all clinics are like this. This is just my personal experience. I just read your post and it all came back to me. Congrats on your new position!!!! :balloons:

Let's see . . . you are leaving a snake pit for a decent job with better pay.
I think they did you a favor.
The thought occurs to me that they wanted your job for the roommate and did what it took to get you to vacate it.
Oh, well. The best revenge is to live well and be happy.

Sounds like you are too good of a nurse to stay in a place like that! Thumb your nose at them- while you come home from work in a better mood, more appreciated, and better off financially.

Yes it does make you angry. But, you're better off. Don't worry it will come back on them. What goes around always comes around. For the doctor too, just thinking about money as if it was the most important thing. Shame, Shame, on him!!!!!!

tell that doc to calculate how much it continues to cost him to search, hire and keep training new staff, send him a letter on your way out that door.
you've just added a good "war story" to your growing list, enjoy your new position and I hope they appreciate you there!

good for you, mac!! that wonderful doc who offered the job and convinced you to take it should listen to a tape recording of himself.

I just want to add my agreement to everyone else's that you are lucky to be outta there. Although the hours seem great, the added stress was ridiculous. That doctor needs to calculate how much training costs and factor that into the office manager's salary and then see how much she saves him - lol.
Good luck in your new job.

I used to work in a doctor's office, not a clinic. The office consisted of myself, an office manager, the doctors (2), and a phelbotomist (spelling?). It was terrible. I was the front desk secretary aka the slave! The office manager knew that she was supposed to help with the phones but her idea of helping was picking up the phone and telling the caller to who without even finding out what they were calling for! I also had to greet the pts., take their co-pay, deal with the pts who swore up and down that they don't have to pay their co pay for one reason or another, bring pts to the rooms and weight them, write letters for the doctors, call pharmacies, file charts. I felt like I was a one person office myself!
The office manager would leave at 5pm, but I would have to stay until office hours were over (most of the time after 8pm!). I remember the one night I stayed until 9pm cleaning up the office and filing charts and getting ready for the next morning. The office manager yelled at me for staying too late and told me that the doctor doesn't want to pay me for all that time! So she said that from now on I have to leave when the Doctor leaves for the night. And to punish me that day made told me that I had to leave at 5pm and that she would stay until the hours were over! I was furious! The Doctor got wind of this and he said that he had no problem with me staying especially since I was doing stuff for the office. Needless to say, she was over ruled and she went back to leaving at 5pm and I stayed.
She was evil! I was part time so its not like i was getting overtime, and I was a college student so any extra cash helped! The day I couldn't work there anymore b/c of school obligations was the happiest day for me! The doctor was sad to see me good as we had a good relationship. He treated me very well! I kept in touch with the other woman who worked in the office, and she couldn't stand me not being there.
What is it with people!

:caduceus: Perfect! Congratulations on your new job!
Looks like a win win situation. Sounds like you were pushed out
so the office managers roomate could be hired. Beautiful!
A happy family. With what you described about the perks for
all the "best friends", productivity (read $$$$$$$$$$) will take
a nose dive to an all time low.
The Doctor will notice as things fall apart....:smackingf
Good for you for escaping this foolishness, look forward and
don't look back!!!
