Hey just wondering if anyone on here was previously accepted to their program and how it is and if you don't mind sharing your stats. Also anyone else on here that's applied already for 2015? I just submitted my application last week.
I was rejected from 3 schools and wait listed for 1. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm going to be looking into 2 year community college programs instead now. I was depressed for a little while because I hate failure but I need to keep moving forward with a positive attitude, as do you! I know it's a set back but if this is really the career option that I want in life then rejections from competitive programs will not hold me back. You'll be fine! We both will (:
Thank you for you encouragement and good luck in ur future endeavor.
Congrats to all those accepted! Sorry i was away for a while.. things got crazy at QU! For any of you that weren't accepted.. i just want to say... definitely reapply next year. There are people in our program now who didn't get accepted last year. @Kra820, they expect us to maintain a 3.0 gpa. However, we did have some students that did not meet that expectation fall semester, one in particular got a 2.9. They did not kick anyone out of the program, they actually set up a plan to get him on track.. through extra help, tutoring ect. However, you cannot graduate without a 3.0 gpa. If you get too low below a 3.0, lets say 2.6 or 2.7, they may advise you to withdraw, but they dont kick anyone out :))
I'm not sure how exactly they decide, but I do know that you basically have no say until your very last clinical experience. They try to place you within 45 minutes of your home, but that doesn't always work out either. Ultimately, they try to decide who's a good match for whatever site- how, i'm not sure.
Also, wanted to add, persistence in this crazy time is a MUST. To any one not accepted, call, keep calling, leave voice mails. There is a girl in our program now who did not get accepted last year. She kept calling because she wanted to know how to be a stronger applicant for the following year. She said they never answered her calls or returned her phone calls. One day, randomly, she got a phone called from the head of our program saying "a spot just opened and it seems that you really want to be here".
This program will really guarantee you passing the NCLEX and the reputation it has in the surrounding area hospitals is pretty amazing! With that being said, it is extremely important to remain very flexible in this program. Things constantly change every moment and you can't really plan anything for the summer. Spring and fall were very manageable and like a normal junior year of college so its definitely doable but summer it gets intense. As long as you are really ok giving up your life for a little bit to devote for nursing, the program goes so quick its worth it! Just remember to remain flexible and dont let the little things get to you :)
We wondered the same thing! The first day most of us dressed somewhat nice, with at least a nicer shirt or something, but the second day, we were just comfortable. The building can get VERY cold so make sure to bring some layers! I would go with comfort but still look somewhat decent (no sweat pants). They really do not care about our dress here but the person in charge has made subtle comments she thinks we should need to dress nicely since its a professional program. However, when you see us we will probably all be about the comfort! It is completely up to you but my only recommendation is bring an extra layer for your arms!
