As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.
New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.
NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.
NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."
The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.
Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.
Hope that this helps................ :balloons:
Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.
Depends on where you wish to work and live. Do not pick a place just because you can get a job there. If you do not like the weather, then it will be pure "uckies" for you for a few years, for lack of a better work to use.
Can you suggest any hospital? I lived in Ohio for a year when I was in high school. I like the place and even the weather. Any suggestion regarding hospitals?
Thanks again!
eligibility and att are not the same. you will not receive the att until the fee is paid tho pearson-vue and they receive the okay from the bon as well. pearson-vue is the one that actually handles the att now.
suzanne clarifies these two terms for me please: eligibility and att. after you filled and paid both of application ny bon and cgfns, you will wait for what? for att or for eligibility letter? and after that with this letter you will apply for nclex, will you pay registration fee for nclex through pearson-vue, and after that....what kind of letter you will received from nclex ?
thank you!
Once NY receives the CVS from CGFNS and approves you to register for the exam, you will get a letter from NY stating that you meet all requirements for licensure except the NCLEX exam. Once you have registered with Pearson-Vue, and paid your fee, and they also receive word from NY, they will then issue you the ATT (Authorization to Test). The ATT is no longer sent by the BON, but is handled by Pearson-Vue.
Hope that this helps.....

hi!!! suzanne :balloons: I'm just puzzled about that SSN thing in California because I'm on the process now on completing the forms needed for the things needed on the eligibility test in Cali and besides I'm willing to wait for four months or so but the problem is what is SSN? how will it affect me? and how will I get it? thank you so much... :)
If for some reason that you decide to endorse to antoher state because you have received a better offer, etc., it is quite time consuming. You will not receive a SSN# until after you have a job offer and your immigration processing is well under way.
California also does not have early notification of results either.
It is your choice to pick what you wish to do but I do not recommend it for anyone.
Hi suzanne, just wanted to know your opinion about applying to Illinois? Illinois doesn't
require the CGFNS exam anymore, adding to the fact that their visa processing
(Nebraska processing center) is a little fast now. They do require the CES though,
what exactly is the difference between CES and the CVS of NY and is there a
difference between the waiting periods for each evaluation?
The CES and the CVS take about the same amount of time. Not sure how long Illinois will take, I still do not recommend then for initial licensure........they have only changed that ruling recently, and not sure how their times are going to change.
Unless you planning on working in Illinois, the time that Nebraska gets things done doesn't matter. Where you will be ultimately employed and by where your employer is located is the deciding factor. All of the times are very fast right now, there is only a difference of about two months with Vermont and Calfiornia, at least with the stats that I received two days ago.

Hi! Yup! That's what I thought. Nurses in the US are almost like doctors. Very different from nursing here in the Philippines. The problem I have regarding the training or my lack thereof, is that hospitals there require it before hiring nurses from here. I had an interview with a well known hospital in Maryland and I was denied because of my lack of training/employment experience as a nurse. Any sugggestions?
