Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

:balloons: hi to all!

i have 2 questions suzanne: a) if i receive my ATT from NY BON, how long would be the grace period for me to take the test? 90 days? b) ive heard of stories of delayed and missing applications, would it be "safer" and faster if i send by courier 2 or maybe 3 downloaded filled-up application forms of visa screen and CVS together with 2 or maybe 3 required papers (TOR) a few days from each other?

errrr....sori for my silly questions :uhoh21:

Welcome to Allnurses.com........... :balloons:

You will first receive a letter from NY that you meet all requirements for licensure excet for the NCLEX-RN exam. You will not receive the actual ATT until you pay the fee to Pearson-Vue and they have also received notification from the NY BON. Once you pay the actual fee, then you have 90 days to test.

You only need to send one set, but please make sure that they are sent by courier service. :)

thanks suzanne4.......you really are a great help to us international nurses.....i spent a great deal of time reading all your advises at this thread and from a 0% knowledge to almost 100% knowledge regarding application.....thank you so much.....God bless

You are very, very welcome................. :)

i followed miss suzanne4's advice for the NY BON......upon downloading the Form 1 of the NY BON, i noticed that i still have to notarize the last (fourth) page of the Form 1......my question is, can i have the last page notarized by a local lawyer or probably in out city hall instead of the US embassy?? would it matter coz it did not indicate that the notary should be done in a US embassy/consulate??

thanks for the info =)

I would have it done by the Embassy. That way there is no room for any possibility of needing to have it redone. In any foreing country, if the documents are required to be notarized for the US, it is best to have done at the Embassy where they have US notaries.

thanks again suzanne4 =)

hi suzanne!

I'm new here and I really feel crushed after reading some of the threads here. I'm a Registered Nurse in the Philippines, graduated last may 2005. I passed the Board Exams on June 2005 and passed my IELTS on July 2005. I arrived here in CA on the 3rd week of August & submitted my application to Cal BON. I am now waiting for me eligibility from Cal BON. I guess that was a wrong move, huh...i should've considered NY instead?!

Is there anything I can do about this when it's easier to get the license in NY w/o the SSN? :o

The sad thing is, I left my country w/o my Philippine license because we were told that it will be released 2 months after our oathtaking (Aug. 17th)..With regard to Visa Screen, I couldn't process it ahead because ICHP/CGFNS would need a verification of registration or license from where we took the exams, right? So i put that on hold unless they would release our license.

So since I'm in CA now, should i STILL consider taking the NCLEX-RN in NY? I still don't have my eligibility now..hope you can help me with this because I'm hanging...I'm looking for review centers on the net & this is where I ended up instead..& I'm really very happy..Thank you so much for all the infos!! :yelclap:

Sorry but you never should have come to the US until you had the letter from a state that had accepted your credentials. You are going to be waiting at least four months for approval to even to be able to sit for the exam, then waiting for the results, etc. NY can also take you the same time.

I assume that your visa is for six months..........you are going to have issues with finding a position once you pass the exam, and being able to get all immigration "things" completed before your visa expires.

As far as a review, you can use just the Saunder's Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN. I definitely do not advise anyone to do what you did. I would tell your friends the same thing as well. You are going to be pushing yourself too close to the deadline for any sane person to do.

Suzanne, first of all thank u so much for always replying in my messages I'm so happy that there's someone here that would always listen and that is definitely you... you're an angel :saint: ....well, anyway I'm an RN here in the Philippines and just about to take the NCLEX exam and English exam anyway, I'm applying for California because I know they are only requiring an NCLEX and English exam for foreign nurses like me is it wise enough for me just to take the NCLEX and english exam after all, I'm determined to work in California but I'm still thinking if it would be much wiser to take the CGFNS as well? :crying2:

Thank you so much....

My personal opinion is do not go the route of California for initial licensure.

You do not need the CGFNS exam for most states nowadays. CA will not issue you a license until you have a SSN#. For some reason that you decide later on to work in another state, you will have issues. CA also takes the longest for credential approval since they do the work themselves, something else to consider.

hi suzanne! m new here.
