As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.
New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.
NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.
NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."
The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.
Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.
Hope that this helps................ :balloons:
Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.
Wrong information from that person, sorry. It doesn't matter how many certificates that you have from outside of the US, it will not help in any way as far as getting a position here. The facility will hire "new grads" or they will want at least two years of experience in a specialty area. The certification doesn' take the place of experience and they are looking for that, when possible.
I know of several facilities that aren't hiring any foreign med-surg nurses, but as far as speciialty nurses with two years experience, will do that in a second.
Selling a training class means thatr you are doing just that..........selling and getting money for it, I am sure that they are not offering the course for free.
suzanne, which is better, putting my address here in the philippines or putting my sis' address in connecticut as the mailing address for my cgfns and ny forms? will it affect my application? Some people say that processing will be faster if i use a US address since the mailing time will be shorter from state to state, then my sister can just use an overnight courier service to send it to me.
sorry to bother you again...
Your sister's address would be faster but it depends on when you are planning to come to the US. If after the time that you have your green card, then your own address is fine, but if you won't be there when they are do to arrive, use your sister's. ATT can be sent via e-mail from Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam, you just need the VSC to take to the Embassy or close to that date.
It all depends on what you are planning to do...........
Well, actually I'm really confused, dunno if i'm doing the right thing. I finally got my license number from the registration authority here in the Philippines and so I'll be sending my CGFNS CVS, NY BON Form, and Visascreen this coming week. With regards to my plans, I'm currently taking the courses (online) required by the NY BON , after that, I'll be taking the IELTS exam. Then, i'll be waiting for my eligibility to sit for NCLEX from the NY BON. My sister is looking for an employer who would petition me (my sis is a nurse in Connecticut). So suzanne, am I on the right track?
Going back to the mailing address for the forms I mentioned above, what can you finally suggest? Philippine add or US add? I don't really know when I am coming to the US, it all depends on the approval of these applications.
Lastly, can I send you a sample of the filled-out forms so you can comment or suggest anything that would make me fill-in the entries correctly? THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP!!! :)

Sorry but no, your friend must graduate from nursing school first. She will be required to attend at least two years depending on the program that she attends. Being a nurse and being a physician require different training.
thank you for your prompt response
I saw on another thread "AOS". What does it mean?
And what means USCIS?
Best wishes! :flowersfo
With regards to my plans, I'm currently taking the courses (online) required by the NY BON , after that, I'll be taking the IELTS exam.
Could you please tell us which training provider did you use to take those two classes online? I saw on NY BON's web site plenty of them. Please help us sort them out, or make us a suggestion.
Thanks!
Hi Suzanne and other members..
I am Johanna.. and new here.
.. I just registered today after reading the postings. I recieved that link from someone in a different forum, trying to find some help regarding CGFNS. I have spend the last two years trying to get registered for the CGFNS Exam. After endless calls to them and many, many letters I am so :angryfire . I am sure that I did do a lot wrong with filling out my paperwork, but it is very confusing !! Since it still hasnt brought me any closer to my RN License, I am trying NY!
I finished nursing school in Germany and worked five years. I have secondary school to cover my high school diploma and I have also taken the TOEFL already, which probably will expire soon anyways...
With my husband being in the Military, I do have a Green Card and SSN. Since we are not sure where our next tour will station us, I would like to prepare and work on getting my license, but not waste any more time on CGFNS Exam, since I found out it is not needed anyway. I found out, that NY will issue me a license ( after, of course going through the application etc. ) and this will be exepted in other states ( after again some paperwork ) .
Suzanne, did I understand all this correctly? I am trying to avoid asking the same questions again and again. Sorry..
I have printed the NY Application ( Form 1 ) and found the link for CGFNS. Now, of course my questions: Do I file them at the same time? And do both of them have to be notarized? The way I see it, I just send in the Forms and $$ and they take care at anything else?
An personal issue: Since we do not know, where the military will station us next and mostly important when, how good is a license for? I would want to get my license (NY) let us say end 2006 and not be able to go to the states to work for the next four years. How long do I have, untill I will have to go through everything over again?
@ Moni... thank You for the link. It is really helpfull !!
Suzanne, thank You for your time and information.
Have a great day,
Johanna
Thank You so much...
Johanna

hi suzanne! i have a question regarding work experience vs. training
coz i went to this seminar and he mentioned that work experience is not so important because unfortunately i guess due to lack of funds nursing practice in my country it can be somewhat different (some practices are sort of obsolete) compared to nx practice in the US then he says that what's more important is getting into training/workshop which will issue a certificate accredited by BONs in the US or is it also equally essential to get a work experience as well?
