Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

Tell them to go with New York. They will issue a hard license without a Social Security Number, and in my opinion, this is the most important thing. :)

I will tell that to my friends but before anything else, then they should be able to hurdle the national licensure exams here in the Phil so they could apply in NY. Thanks

The US does not require previous licensure in your home country, only a set of completed transcripts. You may wish to get the initial license to get the experience while you are waiting for immigration.

So that's why! Its just a shame that I decided to apply in CA. Anyways, again thanks for the help and insights.

http://www.op.nyed.gov site not there... how do you take the two courses online that are required?

Thanks.. John

Hi everybody!

Susan, after reading a couple of pages in this post I got lost in information. I hope you find some resources to answer my questions as well :) .

I'm actually writing on behalf of my wife. She's is a RN and graduated a three year college of nursing. She is on a H4 visa being my dependant, consequently she does not have a SSN but only a tax ID and we are currently living in NC.

1. For our specific situation what is the shortest (and safest) way to get her licensed? Is a NY license - like you suggested - good in NC?

2. Can you detail a little bit what all these steps you mentioned before mean (e.g. Visa Screen, Credentials Evaluation and so forth)? We are not accustomed with them. What exactly do we need to do?

3. What is - again - the shortest way to get a working visa (H1B I believe) once she is licensed?

My employer filed for greencard already but it takes forever to get it. So my wife is trying to go her way to get a working visa in the meantime, if she has the opportunity. And being a nurse in the US seems like a good one.

Thank you,

Solaris

First question, where did she attend school? Depends on the country as well as program if it will be accepted here. If India, good chance, if the UK there are make-up classes to be done before the curriculum will be accpeted, just to give you an example.

There is no longer an H1-B visa available for nurses, there is the green card.

Each state has their own license but it is easy to obtain a licnese in another state once you have the initial one. One of the major reasons that I recommend NY is that they require that CGFNS obtain all documents for them, which is a very good thing since you are already in the US. The ssme documents can also be used for the Visa Screen Certificate. Depending on where your wife trained, she may or may not be reuqired to do the set of English exams.

As a nurse, you wife will be able to get a green card much quicker than you

are. :)

Without knowing any other info, I would recommend the NY route for her, it will also save much time and effort for you to try to get everything sent to the US as far as documents, etc.

Since she is already legally in the US, she will be able to get hired and then get an "Adjustment of Status" filed on her behalf, and be able to work in about 60 to 90 days, once she has completed the NCLEX exam and has the Visa Screen Certificate in hand. I do not like to see anyone get petitioned without it, especially in the East because of the time frame of when it is

actually required.

Hope that this helps...........please let me know if you have any more questions............

Just go for the regular license only and you will be just fine.... :balloons:

Hi Suzanne, Are you saying that if I take the exam in indiana and fail i can take it in NY? Also are you saying that instead of applying in Indiana I could apply in NY and speed things up? I"m just curious, I'm still an RN st :) udent and this site is really a helpful tool to those of us who are inexperienced with this type of stuff. Not to mention the thousand other topics on here that are so very helpful. I actually got the best ANA and CHEM help on this stie, and i searched and searched myself but only found crap. Anyway back to the question at hand. Let me know if you would. I'm very nervous about taking the test not to mention uninfourmed. take care,

hello suzanne!

i am new here. i am very glad for finding this forum, becouse i can find here a lot of good information. i am almost (3 month) RN in israel, and i am plannig to work in usa. all the steps till nclex i know (friend of mine told me evereything) exept of how can i applay for nclex. could you please explaine about it? i heard, that the vermont is the best and quikest way to achieve ATT.

thank you !

Please, please do not use Vermont for initial licensure unless you are planning onw working there. They may be quick in issuing you the ATT, but that doesn't take care of anything else before you can begin work. You owuld have the time involved for endorsing to the other state, as well as still ahving to submit for Visa Screen, etc....................

You will be saving yourself time by going for New York............they will also issue you a hard license so that you may endorse almost anyplace else.

I would follow the information on this site, not what your friend is telling you. There is too much incorrect information out there. Just follow what it says for getting licensed here, you will be on the right track with that.

You cannot do anything about the NCLEX exam until your documents are accepted by a Board of Nursing. You need permission from them to be able to even sit for the exam.

Where are you attending nursing school? This posting is for international nurses who wish to work in the US.

If you do not pass the exam in one state, you keep taking it until you do.

If you are going to work in Indiana, and you are an American nurse, then stick with that.
