75 Questions on the NCLEX

Published

How many people had 75 questions on the NCLEX RN and failed versus how many had 75 and passed?

When my mom took boards 25 yrs ago also by 2 day paper/pencil, my dad says the women came crying out of the testing room from the tension.

I called home the first night in tears, telling my mom I couldn't do this. She told me to just pack up and come home. Then my dad got on the phone: "We did not put you through school and support you these last few years just so you could quit. You stay there and finish that test. If you fail, you fail, but YOU WILL NOT QUIT!!"

12 weeks later, to the day, I got my letter saying I'd passed.

Another one bites the dust! :bluecry1: mecry.gif I'll take it again at the end of the month!armed.gifrocket.gif

Took the NCLEX in San Diego on the 12th of Oct, 75 questions in less than an hour, still no results! I quess that's either real good or real bad! California BRN blows:angryfire

I just took my NCLEX-RN today and only got 75 questions! I got through nursing school with mostly A's but i feel like I guessed on most of the questions! I left crying and feeling my life is over. I have to wait until monday for the results...ahh!! I thought i'd be happy if the computer stopped me at 75 but when i got to that point i was begging for more time to prove myself! Has anybody else felt like this and passed??? Thanks!:uhoh21:

Absolutely. I was an A nursing student. I had 75 questions in 45 minutes. Towards the end I actually thought the computer was making up medical conditions, as they were nothing I'd ever even heard of. I left feeling pretty miserable and went straight to the bar of the hotel where I was staying.

To make things worse, all the folks that took the test on the same day as me had gotten their results after a day or two, and mine weren't available for 10 days. It turns out my results were randomly selected to be graded by hand.

Thank God, I passed.

I had a classmate that had all 265. After she found out she passed, she learned that she actually passed at 75 but got all the questions anyway. Evidently a few random people go through this. It's something they do to gauge the reliability of the testing process and validity of the questions.

Try not to drive yourself crazy. I have only ever heard of a few people that failed at 75, and that's through this forum. Every nurse that I pestered while waiting for my results, which was quite a large group, all said that shutting off at 75 nearly always means passing. That was based on their experience, as well as the experiences of their friends/classmates.

Best of luck to you in your career as a nurse.

Oncnurse86,

when I took mine I felt like I guessed on every question and that my hours of studying were worthless. When it shut off at 75 questions I was sure I had failed and walked out of there scared to death. But I passed and I'm sure you will too! :icon_hug:

75 questions in 49 minutes. One of the questions was a two-page jobbie with lab values and such (!) When I left, I didn't think I had failed, but I was thinking...

"that was it?"

"this is they can coalesce 4 years of college to?"

I then went to Bennigans (across the parking lot) and had a Guinness.

I then waited EIGHT FREAKIN' DAYS (checking the State BON 2x daily) for my results.

I passed. w00t!

75 questions and passed. I felt like I knew most of the answers so I felt pretty good about it.

A couple of years later there was a new grad orienting on my floor and he was worried because his test shut off at 75. I tried to give him a pep talk and told him he either failed terribly or passed with flying colors. I even told him he'd have to be an idiot to fail with 75 questions. Well he failed and I felt like the idiot. I don't think I'm good at pep talks!!

I'm sorry nservice... but your post made me laugh.... don't feel bad... you meant well.... thanks for the chuckle though...

Thanks Purdue Nurse!!! I'll keep you updated!! This is going to be one LONG weekend haha!! Did you go to Purdue Lafayette? I'm from Indiana too!

I got 75 questions done in 45 minutes. The two day wait for results was the longest two days of my life! I too left there feeling that I had to be the most ignorant person on the planet! I was so dumb that the test just stopped! Two days later, I paid the $7.95 to Pearsonvue and found out that I had passed. I cried so hard and so loud, that my kids came out of their rooms to ask if I was okay. When I called my husband to tell him, he could hardly understand me, neither could my dad. It's hard to believe that was

well, after spending the last almost 48 hours agonizing about my results, it was really nice to read this thread. I looked at the computer and my heart dropped when it shut off after 75 questions. I kept saying "NO!!!!! I really DO know my stuff, please give me a chance to prove it!!!!" That night was just HORRIBLE for me. I drank half a bottle of wine and felt like there was NO way that i had passed. I feel a little better reading your experiences. I hope that I too have passed.

Which brings me to my question. I took the the boards for new york state, which is one of the states that give you "quick results". Yeah, i know its not *quite* 48 hours later just yet, but what time do you guys think they might post my results???? I took the test on Wednesday at 8:30 am.

i feel like i am going crazy!!!!

ps: sooo much riding on this exam. I have applied to a specialty program that has a requirement that you pass the nclex on the first try. I'm 2 interviews in. If i dont pass, i'm out. see, this is why im going nuts :(

This is so not fair........

I feel your pain. That's why I don't have a whole lot of patience for the "Wahhh, I have to wait 24h to get my results!" threads. Try sitting through 2 days of testing with several hundred people in an auditorium, then waiting three months for the results.
