Nursing Students Online Learning

Has anyone taken any courses from here, if so how did you like it? Or has anyone graduated with their RN and if so, what is your input on this program?

Does anyone recommend Rue or College Network to help get LPN to RN?Or :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :blushkiss would it be better to just go through Excelsior?

as for cleaning up a patient who has soiled themselves if you don't that is considered physical jepardy. you should ask the cpne team online or via phone before you take the cpne what to do in that situation. can you say to your ce my patient has soiled themselves i'm going to ask the staff nurse to take care of it. are you allowed to do that? before you take the cpne you need to know exactly how to handle that situation. because that would be time consuming. and if you do have to take care of it yourself then see if you can have that time added onto your cpne so you don't run out of time.

No, exceslior gives you all the information you need to know and where to find it. These other programs are a waste of money.

I am just starting out, and I am using the college network and Ecelsior. Do you have to take...for ex. Sociology, intro to religion, and Eng. Comp-My gen. studies first...Or...Can you take the nursing concepts first to help better motivate you. Just wondering... thanks!

I did the NC's first and saved my last 9 credits of general eds for last. If you do it this way, then you can go ahead and apply for the CPNE. You can do the CPNE with 9 or less credit hrs of gen eds left to do. But I did already have Psych, Dev. Psych, Eng, Micro, and A&P out of the way- I don't know if any of the above are required prior to taking the NCs, so if you don't have all of the above done, you might want to ask your academic advisor. I CLEPped Soc, Bio, and Analying/Interpreting Lit after I got the CPNE done. They were only about $60 each, and I took all 3 in the same day. I got 18 credit hrs of gen ed out of the way in 1 day, for less than 1 3-4 credit hr EC exam.

I have 4-5 months to prepare for CPNE and don't have any hospital experience(curently working in a vet hospital). How can I get some? What about volunteer in a local hospital. Please help me out. Thanks

I would suggest doing an externship at a local hospital. That'll give you a chance to get hospital experience with the support of a preceptor, and may land you your first nursing job if they want to keep you when you're done.

Good luck with the CPNE!

i don't think you really need hosp exerperience to pass the cpne. the critical elements are easy. you memorize them and do them. you can practice the labs with a skills bag you can buy from the school. you can practice the wound dressing by carving out styrofoam block to match the one in the cpne study guide. don't make the wound to deep. it's harder to pack a shallow wound. washing your hands all the time and keeping the patient safe ie side rails up, bed in low position, call light in reach. if you have trouble doing something like cleaning up a patient, getting bubbles out of the iv tubing ask the staff rn what to do. sure it will help and make you more confident to do an internship at a hosp but if you can't get that don't worry. you have to be safe, do the critical elements, and if you don't know how to do something at the cpne ask the staff rn. i have only worked as a psych nurse and i passed the cpne.

I have just completed Excelsior's Nursing program ... Despite all the hype California has doen against the Excelsior RN, I am very proud to be a graduate from EC... It was not an easy way to earn your degree but it is flexible and works well with a family and working. You have to organized and a self motivator. The CPNE is stressful .... your are not there on a teacher - student level as with a traditional school of nursing but on an examiner - student level. You have to know your critical elements... I call it the Ivory Tower of Nursing... you have to be 100% ...you must know how to critical think... California has no idea what these graduates have to do in order to pass CPNE .. but I am telling you, once you Graduate from EC's nursing program you will realize it is one of the best schools of nursing .... and you will be one of the better nurses because of what EC demands of you.... Thank-you

i agree with the above post. i found my clinicals in the traditonal lpn program to be mostly cleaning up people. most of the traditional clinical is doing cna work. where as with excelsior you're doing nursing work. i think excelsior has an excellent program. the local rn program at the local state college started with 50 students and ended with 15. no nursing school is a walk in the park.

Have the College Network textbooks changed since 2001. I was thinking about buying them on EBAY. Thanks
