Questions about DCN

Published

Hi. My name is Mandi. I'm new and I've been reading alot about DCN and was wondering what everyone thinks about it. I was also wondering if you already have to be an LPN in order to get your ASN. Is it hard to get accepted into the college. Anyone who has any information I would really appreciate.. Thanks!

Where is DCN located at. Do you know if they accept prior nursing credits like Excelsior dones?

I'm thinking of attending Deaconess. I just about have all of the pre-reqs out of the way. Do we have to secure our own clinical sites? I thought that school did that for the students.

I think you are right that this program is becoming very competitive. I was just accepted for summer start admissions (I start Monday, Yeah!). However, speaking of my experience, I would have so say that to increase your chances of being accepted you need to have many of your prerequisites done (A&P, English, etc). DCN takes ccconline credits, and those are completed completely online which really helps one out with young kids (also speaking from experience).

I also think a major factor is having clinical sites secured even though you are not accepted. I think it makes it easier on Deaconess to know you already have a clinical site and are just awaiting the "A-Okay" to enroll in coursework.

I hope this helps. Don't give up!

Take Care,

Marci

PS. Congrats to NICURNtobe! :balloons:

For all of you considering this program, check first with your BON to see if it is accepted. It is no longer accepted in many states, especially as initial licensure. Information for you needs to come from your BON, not the school.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Well shame on me. Here is my confession: I read this post completely out of context. My mistake; I also admit to not noticing that it is in the distance learning forum. I actually do recall responding to it as it gave me a bit of a chuckle. I read this as basically "Hi. What do you think about DARVOCET? Do you have to be an LPN before you can be an RN, and is it hard to get into nursing school?" I would think that my reference to IBU (ibuprofen) would be a dead giveaway that we are not on the same page here.

So it is pretty apparent now that DCN is some sort of nursing program. I am sorry to report that I am indeed not an expert on this subject as I've never heard its name mentioned. I certainly didn't intend to ruffle any tailfeathers.

My apologies to the OP.

:chuckle Glad to see I wasn't the only one confused...I also thought it was a question re: Darvocet....until I read the reply where they thought you were being sarcastic...then I was very confused....yeah, apparently a nursing program....still not sure which one though....although if it is a non-painful program maybe they can use that as their slogan...."No need for DCN at DCN!!!"....I think maybe I am delerious.

This is the third time in a week I have seen yourself and someone else post this statement "It is no longer accepted in many states, especially as initial licensure." I assume you are basing this on a specific fact and not just a rumor so lets here what exactly has come to your attention. Most of us here know that CA and NY students are not eligible and I have also heard something about IL...so beside these that were previous discussed what states are you referring to. If you cannot provide anything specific then I assume you are just spreading a rumor (i.e. something you hear someone else say).

DCN and the DCN students on this board are in good habit of recommending all students contact their BON before starting the program...I am not disputing this recommendation...

But if you are moved to post the above quotation on this board, lets start hearing specifics...

Cheri :)

CA, NY, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Washington are the one's I know of.

Also, DCN online has only initial accreditation. They are not fully accredited yet as there have not been enough students to sit for boards in the ASN program. This information comes straight from the Missouri State Board of Nursing as of last week.

LadyKLibra,

One of the major issues with this program is that, no, DCN online does not secure clinical sites for their students. I would HIGHLY recommend you secure placement in an acute care setting before you begin the program. Other than possibly Excelsior, and I don't know that for sure, DCN online is the only nursing (ASN) program I know of in the country that requires students to secure their own clinicals.

Best wishes and much luck,.

Wondering if anyone has heard anything about the January start for Deaconess? I was one of those students who missed this last start. I haven't heard anything from Deaconess since April so I am wondering if I need to do something or if it's just a little early or if they will be contacting me?

If anyone has heard anything let me know!

Carly

They started a fall session as well that starts in August. I'm not sure if that interests you or not, so give them a call if it does.

Good luck.
