Questions for ADN Grads about BSN's

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hello Everyone,

I'm wrapping up ADN requirements(waiting for grad date and licensing steps), but looking at BSN programs already. I believe I've narrowed it down to two college programs. Been hearing good things about UT of A, and read EC BSN stuff here(dated though) and EC solicitations. While reading on EC's site, I saw two EC BSN level courses still being offered as Exam by credit, but you must be registered by 31 Dec 2014 for the exams for them to apply for your BSN degree. Doesn't give much time, and I'm a fan of Credit by Exam(self learner and cheaper). So I was hoping to draw on information I'm sure others have researched or experienced.

Given choice between UT of A and EC for BSN's, what which would you enroll in? Have you completed either and your feelings? Any advice?

Thank you,

The Community Focused Nursing exam was a very difficult exam. Everyone that I know of who took it, either passed with a C or failed it. I was warned about it but didn't listen because I'd never, ever failed a nursing exam before. Well, I got a D on it. Passed the course with an A. The Research in Nursing exam takes 60 days to grade. So I didn't even bother with that exam. I took these two nursing courses this past January. I took 4 nursing courses last fall 2013. I got all A's in the courses and the capstone. It is very doable. But, you won't be able to do the exams by year's end because you have to have that writing requirement completed....even if you've already got a Bachelors in another area. The only exception is if you already have a prior Masters degree in another area...at least that was the exemption in effect when I finished this past summer. I think the Ethics requirement was also needed prior to beginning the nursing courses as well. Statistics is required before taking the research course or exam. As far the other general education requirements, it's just like the exam-based ASN program.

UTA is another one that wouldn't accept my stats course; so that's why I didn't go with them.

UT of A is reputable compared to EC. That is how I'll pick.

Good for you.

Can you explain why EC is less reputable than UTA?

All you have to do is search on this site. And u could do additionally outside sources that will prove am right. But to highlight real quickly, UT of A has an outstanding ratings of its program compared to EC. Secondly, UT of A is a university EC ain't a university. Thirdly, UT of A credits are transferable when heading for further education, that cannot be said of EC.

You're right, Excelsior is a college and "aint" a University, which means absolutely nothing. Besides that, lots of people have gone on to obtain advanced degrees after completing a BSN through EC. You're spouting off information with no basis in fact.

Excelsior is a non-profit with regional accreditation as well as ACEN (formerly NLNAC) accreditation, and it is also an ACEN Center of Excellence. Nothing more to say, really.
