OK... this may sound wierd, but I've been meaning to ask some of you wise folk out here, and I keep forgetting. But it just happened again, and I got up out of bed to post this.

For the past couple weeks, when I first lie down to go to sleep, I keep hearing a bruit in my ears !!! Really loud and rushing... like my carotids swooshing in my ears. And it's really starting to bug me. I can't remember ever hearing that in the past. ???

Any thoughts? Both ears... either side. Will wane after a period of time.. or maybe I just fall asleep and don't hear it anymore.. can't say. Never hear it when I'm upright, though. ???

Thanx for any input... will TRY to get some sleep now... ("swooosh, swooosh, swooosh").... :stone

Just took mine...125/80. Marla, I cannot believe you were still functioning when yours got that high!!! I'm glad you went to the doctor!

Nighty-nite, jnette.

At least it wasn't the voices of many people whispering in your head!! :uhoh3:

Bahaaaaaaa!!!! :rotfl:

I've had high BP since daughter was born, I was 18!!!, I sat on the border of preeclamptic, but had normal delivery, on BP pills since then. I've tried them all, ace inhibitors work best for me, on zestril, take procardia when the SBP is >140 or DBP is >90, which lately is rare... just increasing the zestril, plumited my BP in the 90's, which from 180 left me unable to get off the couch :chuckle

If I'm stressed, and yes, forget my pills, when I lay down at night I can hear my blood pulsating through my carotids. With activity, or even upset, I can feel chest pressure, but never so uncomfortable that I would mention it.

I have been through batteries of tests to find out why, they're all neg. have your md run....

renal scans..renin angiotensin captopril study

echo

ekg

all the usual labs with complete thyroid series

24hr. urine

pheochromocytoma , blood test

I'd never believe that HTN can be a "silent killer", I can feel my BP rise immed. my PMD, says, if I'd ignored those feelings, they'd have gone away, untill I stroked had an MI or gone ARF.

So follow up!!!! All I've done is eliminated extra salt, watch the added salt, take my meds (the best I can with a swing shift), exercise, not enough.... and try to quit smoking...not there yet.

Been there too.. it's so scary!. hopefully, hopefully, you find a reason for the HTN, and then its fixable, mine, is idiopathic, well 90% of people last time I checked were. But I'm also adopted, so no familiy hx. available

take care of yourself... it seems HUGE at first, then It becomes a way of life.

PM me at any time

Gee, I've heard whooshing sounds in my left ear since I was a kid.

Would probably hear them in my right ear too if the voices would quiet down. :uhoh21:

Good MORNING !

I'm still ALIVE !!! happy05.gif

Thanx, everbody, for your input. Just got up and checked my "resting pressure" which usually first thing in the am would be REALLY low for me... well...it's 132/94. :angryfire

I realize that's not a majorly elevated BP, and as mjlrn says, she's happy to have hers that "low" (wow, mjlrn... you take the cake !)... but for me, this is HIGH. I mean, I've just NEVER had hypertention, and this has just come on over maybe the past month... why all of a sudden? I think that's what bothers me more than the BP itself. Now that I think about it, I've also noticed hearing my heartbeat quite loud in my chest when I lie down... and often my upper abdomen pulsates as well (like a few inches above my belly button). I can actually feel it with my hand.. "boing, boing, boing"!

Heck, I didn't even have this when I was preparing for my big clinincals and the NCLEX ! I did have one episode of SVT, where I nearly passed out at work ... didn't know why, just got dizzy. NM took my BP and HR.. BP was ok, but HR was 180 ! Had the echo and treadmill test done at that time, wore a holter for a week at work (how embarrasing)... but everything was ok, and it never occurred again. That was at my only high stress time, right before my CPNE and graduationover a year ago.

I'm currently not under any stress at ALL, nor am I one to stress over things... I'm one of those "ignorantly happy" ones... So I don't get it.

Family hx. ? Mom just started getting hypertensive in her 70's... she's now 83 and does have to struggle to keep hers down. But she's the worrying kind, and very excitable.. opposite of me. Dad (as far as I know) never had HTN.. he passed away 25 years ago from Lymphoma... (my entire family has been cancer ridden on both sides). Sister's BP is like mine... always quite low. But she has the SVT thing going on regularly ....

So I don't know. Bummers. Guess I'll check my pressures several x a day for the next week or two and write them down so I'll have something to take with me when I go get myself checked out. I have a wonderful NP whom I trust explicitly and have been seeing for years. She always laughs at how "healthy" I am. Just have never been the "sickly" kind.. guess after spending nearly the first 18 mos. of my life in the hospital, I got all my sickness behind me then ! :chuckle

Karen, sorry for being melodramatic... I was really just playing ! Heck, I could be on my death bed and I'd still be silly !

Caffine addict... loved the "going to bed" smilie with the little eyes peering around in the dark... heh heh....that's really how I felt!

Well, thanx again, all ! I'll keep on top of this.

Hey... I can even SEE my carotids pulsing !!! No FAIR!

How nice. Now I get to lie down and listen to my blood rush through my arteries into my ears and head... and visualize a major stroke coming on....

(am I being melodramatic enuff here?) heh.... :p

Well, nitey-nite, folks ! Forget counting sheep... I'll count my pulses. :rotfl:

don't stress over it so much, that will make it worse. has anything in your life changed recently? i had the same problem a while ago. my bp was 90/65 and i felt just fine but some problems came along i was up to 130/90!!!got rid of the problem and i'm back to normal. :)

Nope. Nothing different, and no stresses whatsoever. I'm the literal "don't worry, be happy" kid !

And I won't stress over THIS now, either.. I was just a little freaked last night when I saw my BP, 'cuz it's really unusual for me. And I'm assuming this has been going on at least for the past month, when I first remember noticing it. And as usual, I just blew it off.

So no, I won't worry about it, but I probably do need to look into it.
