Question for people from Toronto

Nurses General Nursing

I'm supposed to go to Toronto in 2 1/2 weeks. I'm supposed to go with another couple that's around our age...31 y/o. We're healthy. Non-pregnant...our other g.f.'s not going b/c she is preggo.

I haven't been following SARS on the news for the passed week or two...but hear they had no more cases for a while now they have some more cases.

We've already paid for our vacation. We'd be out a couple hundred dollars if we cancelled our trip now.

Would you not go...if you were us? You live in Toronto so I thought you'd get more of a feeling. I've looked on the Internet there's A LOT of articles but none that fully explained who's getting infected...I'm going to keep searching for info. but thought a person living in Toronto would "know" a lot that's going on there.

We don't plan on touring hospitals but have tickets for Lion King and will stay downtown in a hotel.

What a suprise, doctors are the worst offenders when it comes to ignoring infection control measures. Gee, that never happened before.

I have been doing some shifts as a screener at the entrance to our hospital and have been AMAZED at how some of the docs are behaving. I have had them complain and try to get out of having to wash their hands, wear their masks properly and answer the questionnaire. When you consider the fact that many of them visit more than one hospital I find it absolutely disgraceful and actually threatenned to call security and bar one from entering.

Jenn, I think the town was shut down for the easter holiday, not because of SARS. I haven't noticed a big difference in activity around my place. Also, they are selling N95 masks through several uniform stores if ordinary people want to buy them.

Hey Nurseman, I was wondering what the full face mask and respirator looked like. They were threatening to use those last week if there were any more staff transmissions. What colour scrubs would look best with that -green or blue?:D [/quote

:D

Our uniforms are blue and they match the masks quite nicely. :D

I have seen this mask advertised for SARS protection at http://www.anisafety.com/dp/

The masks are used at the factory where I work for a variety of jobs. When I do my plant walk about I frequently talk to polishers that are wearing those masks. If they want to be understood they have to talk quite loud or yell if there is any background noise. I did not know the hospitals were threatening to use them. I pity you if you do.
