Question about magnet hospitals

I'm going to be graduating in May and my dream hospital to work at is a magnet hospital. I was wondering a if magnet hospital accepts a rn (adn) with a bachelors in another field (mine is in public health). I know that they want BSN's and tried to do some research and couldn't find anything.

Thanks!

I can only speak for the magnet hospital at which I work, but here, they will accept ADNs with experience (probably at least 1-2 years), but if you're a new grad, they will only take you if you have a BSN.

I work at a Magnet institution, and what I know is that they must have a certain ratio of BSN to ADN nurses. I am unsure of the actual numbers.

In a recent meeting, our managers suggested that the current trend in nursing is to require a BSN at minimum for hire at Magnet institutions. ADN nurses already employed are required to attain a BSN within 10 years of employment.

I will graduate with an accelerated BSN in May...we shall see what happens to me! :) I am sure you'll get your foot in the door somewhere!

The magnet hospital I worked in they did accept ADNs and as new grads. It was in Indianapolis, IN. LOVED it there! Good luck!

depends on the hospital. don't get too caught up in magnet status, it's just numbers and bs for the most part.

I work at a recently designated magnet hospital in IN. They hire Nurses with associates, as long as it is RN (They no longer hire LPN or LVN)....I think the trend is to move towards all bachelors prepared nurses, but that will be a long term goal which I have heard nothing about so far.

They hired me. I've got an ADN and only had a year experience. However, why do you want to work at a magnet hospital? Some are more true to their attained status than others. I would look at the hospitals you are interested in, and see how the staff like it there. And in this economy, I would look for any quality hospital that you could possibly get into.

yes, they will but it has to be an nlnac accredited nursing program, some of the new rn schools are not.

I have an ADN and BA in a non-nursing field. My magnet hospital accepts ADN with BA or BS in another area.

I work for a magnet hospital in IL and they hire ADN graduates without any bachelor degree whatsoever.

I work at a Magnet in NH - and yes, I have an ADN and a BS in business, and no problems getting hired -

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the feedback! :)
