Just a quick question...I've been studying for H&S and there are alot of dates in the reading of the Pediatric guide, also percents on the number of childhood deaths ect...for those of you that have taken the exam do i need to be memorizing these specific data or focus more on the situational nclex type questions? i am getting a little frustrated following the content guide because in that it doesn't really specify if I need to know dates/names/ ect or if its just the concepts.
thanks for the help!

I don't remember any stats, if you have a saunders nclex review, you can use that. or any other review book, study the health safety chapters, and the info on peds is on there. Study your guide from excelsior and take the practice test

Just study the information on the content guide and buy the practice test. This is the best indication of what the exam is like. Its against EC policy to discuss specifics about the test. This is the best advice I can give you. Getting past the first test is the most stressful because you don't know what to expect. Good Luck and try not to overthink the information.

i second the no asking specific questions about the excelsior exams as it violates the ec honesty policy. i really recommend memorizing all the practice exams answers and rationales as some similar questions appear on the actual exam.
honestly, i never learned how to use the content guide for each exam so i did not use it. i just looked at it to see what sections are included in the exam; for example, respiratory, cardiac, sensory, etc...and find that section in the saunders nclex review and my lpn book and read the section. i also used the sg101 notes that "should" follow the the content guide anyway.
health safety is basic nursing so you should be fine. good luck!

i would also recommend taking the practice tests and using the excelsior study guide with the recommended reading.
h&s is basic nursing and with the schedule you have outlined for yourself you should be okay.
Sorry I didn't mean for my question to come off as asking specifics, just wondered if dates were important and stats were important because there are so many! I am using the content guide but maybe i'm not using it correctly because i'm sort of confused on it. I can not get the practice exam until they are finished doing my transcripts (should be next week) and then i plan on getting it. I also ordered last years saunders Nclex RN review book and cd off ebay so as soon as i get that i will. I have been reading each chapter in the recommended textbooks (using older versions of the text though) and have looked at my LPN books too (because i have notes in the book from classes bu tthey are 4yrs old now) and using the disc that came with the textbooks when i could. I also went ahead and bought the study guides for each of the textbooks too so i could give myself "homework" maybe i'm over doing it, but i'm soooo nervous abou t this since i do not have anyone guiding me though what i need to know/do. thanks for the input!

Like NC Girl said, the first exam is always the worst. Once you take that first one, they get easier! Not necessarily in content per se, but it's easier to get yourself to take them. I took A&P as my first exam ... that was tough! But generally speaking, I really thought the practice exams were similar in flavor to the real exams. Good luck!! We're all rooting for you.
Tasha I think once you registered for the exam you can purchase the practice test. You can take H&S without being enrolled so you might not have to wait for excelsior to evaluate your transcipt to purchase the practice test.

You can buy the practice test for Health Safety exam without being enrolled. You can now take Health Safety and Transitions to professional nursing without enrolling. I recommend taking those two test before you pay the $895 enrollment fee. It will buy you some time from paying the $495 yearly fee.
FYI. I studied health safety for 2 weeks and took the test and passed. You can do it! Your on the right track!

The best way to get a "feel" for the test is to do the practice exams beforehand. They can be very helpful.
I guess the problem I'm having getting the practice test is that I haven't figured out how to send in my Finacial Assitance form to pay for my H&S exam so that then I can go back in and order the practice exam myself. I have MyCaa funding for this program and having a real hard time with EC getting me tot he right department to answer some questions. unfortunetly if i pay for the ECE out of pocket my grant money will not reimburse me for the fees...uggghhhh gonna get back on the phone and email EC again, hopefully get some answers!

ps...thanks all for the input!
Yep, you have to pay for the actual exam before you can sign up/pay for the practice exam. Good luck, Tasha! I'm sure you'll get it sorted. :)
