Welcome to allnurses! :balloons:
You can't get a Social Security Number until you are here, physically, in the US and legally authorized (by visa, green card, whatever) to work. There is lots of information about immigration and licensure in the US already posted on this forum -- please have a look at some of the existing threads. Here are links to a few threads of particular interest, to get you started:

Again, welcome, and best wishes!
I am also a foreign nurse, and like you, did NCLEX through Florida BON.
As the previous poster said, you will be assigned your SSN only when you have cleared Immigration and you are physically here in the US.
Regarding your NCLEX certificate, it sounds like maybe your agency has the original? I did not use an agency and received my documents directly.
Did your agency pay for you to sit for the NCLEX exam? If so, they hold the original as it really belongs to them as they paid for it. Your agency is the one that is doing the immigration paperwork for you so they are the ones that need it as well.
And as others have mentioned, you cannot obtain a SSN# until you have actually been granted a visa that will permit you to work in the US and you have arrived here and have gone to the SSA office in person to apply for it. There is also no way to apply for it out of the US as well.
Not sure why it is so urgent for you to get this certificate unless you are trying to move to another agency, and that will be hard for you to do since your contact information is also listed as being thru the agency and not your residence or where you receive mail as well.
And you probably signed a release for the agency to receive all information concerning your application and license and the BON will only use on person, they do not send duplicates to others that ask, even for you.
Hi.. I already pass NCLEX under CA BON. but my employer is in Florida. I understand, I cant get my CA license until I am there to have my SSN. Is there something like "work permit" that allows me to work in Fl while waiting for my endorsement papers? thanks a lot for your help.
There is no 'work visa' that will allow you to work. If not already in the US with a valid work visa with retrogression you are looking at a few to 5 years before making that move.
Hai,
I am an RN who is workingn India and last year i hacleared my NCLEX Exam through an agency.Since retrogression is on and no one know when its gonna end i wanna relieve from the contract with my agency and want my NCLEX documents back so that i can apply directly.
I would like to know will it be possible for me to work in US with an H1 visa till this retrogression getting over and later switch on and apply for the immigrant visa.Is it possible for that.Expecting the reply at the earliest from experts.
Thank You,
Anish
My PD is already current (Jan 06). My petitioner/employer is a Hospital . If God allows, I will be there soon... I understand, it might take 30D or more to wait for my Florida license.. meaning, I have no work / salary for more than a month since I will arrive in US. I am asking if there is a way that I can work already as soon as I arrive there... thanks for your reply

You can apply by licensure and ask Ca to forward your results to Florida but will have to meet Florida requirements for foreign trained and get CES done before you submit your application to Florida. But with no license you can not work and if I remember rightly Florida will also not issue a license without SSN.
There is already a thread called California for initial licensure if you check it out it will tell you what you need to do

Obtaining a H1 is very hard, very limited and you must have BSN. If a bedside nurse then it will be very hard to find a hospital that does H1b as not many do. Also if you cancel with agency and go direct you will be starting all over again with PD and processing

Hai,
I am a Registered Nurse working in India.Last year i had done my NCLEX RN Examination under the Florida Board Of Nursing and got cleared.Since i am signed up with an agency ,i only got the information that i had cleared the NCLEX Exam and i got the scanned copy of the certificate saying that i have met the requirements to obtain the licence to work as an RN with the exception of a Social Security Number, from Florida department Of Health. So could somebody help me in finding out how can i obtain my SSN and will it be possible to get the ORIGINAL NCLEX RN Certificate directly from the respective board and what all are the steps in obtaining the certificate. Its very urgent.
Somebody please help me out in this.
Thank you.
