Just started my application to Queens University in NC. Waiting to hear whether I got accepted to the university before I can submit my ABSN application. Applications are not due until February, but wanted to go ahead and get a head start. Anyone else applying to start in May?
CharlotteNC16, you are very correct! Queens does have many merit scholarships for students. I was offered a scholarship when I received my acceptance letter to the nursing program, but of course I'm still searching around for others. I was told by financial aid that was the only merit scholarship I qualified for.
Congratulations to everyone who was accepted into the ABSN nursing program!
I was waitlisted and wanted to know if anyone in the past has been waitlisted and how soon did admissions let you know your status?
I also put that I am interested in the traditional nursing route. Hoping that if I do not get accepted into the ABSN program I will have a better chance of acceptance into the traditional nursing program.
Hi theia55, I was actually waitlisted last year for the ABSN, and was instead offered a place in the traditional 2 year program. The class size for the traditional program is a lot bigger so you'll have a good chance of getting in!! Especially if they already like you enough to place you on the waitlist :)
Admissions let me know for sure I did not have a spot in the ABSN around the first week of April. I actually declined entering the traditional program for a few reasons. I love the job I have now (but can't see myself advancing in it), so I decided to work for another year before reapplying to the ABSN while taking a few prerequisite classes to boost my GPA at CPCC. That way I could save money for a full extra year and still graduate at the same time as I would have had I accepted my place in the traditional cohort. The ABSN is also less expensive for me overall, so it was a slightly risky decision to wait until the next application cycle but ended up working out.
I felt that I definitely would have had a better chance of making good grades in the traditional route since the course load isn't as heavy though, so it was a tough decision! Both are great options, hopefully you will hear from admissions soon!
Hi CharlotteNC16,
Thank you for reaching out to me. I was just curious if admissions waitlisted everyone who did not get into the ABSN program?
I'm really hoping that I get into the ABSN program but if not I would love to be offered a spot in the traditional program.
I should find out early April!
I know God Has a plan :)
Has anyone else opened the compliance information sent via email by the nursing school today? I am looking over the list of compliance requirements but I am confused on where students get the "Meets Technical Standards Form", "Release of Information to Clinical Partners Form" and the "PSON Confidentiality Agreement Form"…?
So there is no formal immunization sheet that has to be filled out by my primary care physician? I can just submit a general record of immunizations to CastleBranch as long as it is an official record?
CN_2bRN919, it looks like there are individual places to upload vaccination records. Under the "Meets Technical Standards" tab on CastleBranch there is a document you can download for your physician to fill out. It looks like each tab either has a place to upload a document or download a document to fill out and then upload once you have completed it.
I have not purchased my package through CastleBranch yet. Glad to know it's all in the package! I know some programs give students a specific sheet to fill out that includes immunizations, I didn't know if Queens does that as well. Is there a sheet for us to download for our physician to fill in our immunization history?
Yep, it's all included in the package! It's a really cool way for Queens to keep up with our records. It looks like we will be able to keep our records up to date as we need to throughout the year.
You upload your immunization records separately. The record must be signed or stamped by a physician. Your physician will have a record they can print and sign for you that you can then upload. It looks like you just have to keep uploading it under each individual vaccine. You will see what I mean once you have access.
So my physician can give me one record (or fill out a form if required) including all the required immunizations, and I upload that one form or record under each immunization requirement on CastleBranch? I'm sure it will all make more sense once I order my package.
Is there a place for students to upload proof of health insurance? Or do we just verify that with Student Health Services?
I looked through the FAQ's attachment that was sent with our compliance info, and saw where we would view our textbook list and order textbooks online - through the Queens bookstore website. There wasn't a way to search textbooks via the title of the class on the bookstore website, so I'm assuming we'll get a textbook list under our Queens bookstore account once we're registered for classes? I was trying to get an idea of how much textbooks would cost over the summer. Have you submitted your registration form yet? (Glad to see one of the summer classes is an online class :) - I feel a little less overwhelmed - and no Friday classes!) I think I was told that after the registration form was submitted we would get access to our student email etc.

You are very welcome! The FELS is the only one I know of so far, unfortunately I don't qualify for a lot of the merit-based scholarships since I'm married and have a joint income. I'm going to look around a little more though, if I find anything promising I will post it!
Queens has some great adult merit-based scholarships based on GPA ranges. I am unsure if those are not available for any ABSN student (since we're all on our 2nd degrees), or just me because of the joint income, but they are worth asking the finaid office about!
Otherwise for the FELS, we would only receive it for the Fall/Spring semesters since the Summer deadline was March of last year. It amounts to a loan of $3500 per semester (so $7k total). What's so great about the FELS is that the loan dissolves after working as a nurse in NC for one year since nursing is a high-need profession. If you end up moving out of state before the year is up it's no problem, it just turns into a loan you can pay off with a decent interest rate.
If anyone else has found scholarships or programs we can use, let me know! I know we'd all love to reduce the tuition a little :)
