Queens University Summer 2017 Start

Published

Just started my application to Queens University in NC. Waiting to hear whether I got accepted to the university before I can submit my ABSN application. Applications are not due until February, but wanted to go ahead and get a head start. Anyone else applying to start in May?

I was accepted as well!! Let's do it! I just made a Facebook group for the class of 2019!

Ohhh sorry guys, I only saw the last page of comments so I didn't see the other Facebook group. Can't wait to meet you all!

hi! i'm not sure if anyone still checks this, but was anyone taking a pre-req class the spring before the program started? i am taking a class at cpcc and it doesn't finish until the week before classes start! i'm worried if this would be a problem and if there is enough time to get my transcript sent before classes start.

Hi Jolame, i applied to the school as well, but concerning the prerequisites, i think you have to let them know the time you will complete.contact the admissions specialists and you will be fine.I don't think it will affect your status in any way since they allow at least two courses to be in progress.

Hey @CN_2bRN919! Congrats on your acceptance and Scholarship! Which merit scholarship did Queens offer you? I was told by financial aid that I only qualify for the ABSN grant, which is based on my FAFSA. Thanks!

I know this is a few years later, but still hoping you'll see this. Was the ABSN grant enough to make the cost of the program more reasonable? I can't find any hard numbers anywhere about aid for the ABSN program.

I was accepted into this program. But, the grants are hard to come by for second degree students. I didn't get anything, so I did not go. Went to a public university instead and it has been great!!

Thanks so much for letting me know! Where did you end up going??

Hi btay0123 (I changed my username LOL)... I don’t remember the name of the grant I received... it may have been the ABSN grant. This was 3 years ago so I’m not sure if that is still offered. Unfortunately the program was still expensive. It wasn’t my top choice solely because of the cost, but I ended up going there because of how short the program was. I loved Queens!! I don’t regret my decision at all ? I also applied for the NurseCorp scholarship. It’s a program that will pay for your nursing degree as long as you commit to working in an underserved area for 3 years. It’s a scholarship outside of Queens, it’s not offered through the school. I got offered the scholarship but didn’t take it because I wanted to work in a bigger hospital and get ICU experience. I wish I would I would have taken it, but that’s okay.

Thanks so much for replying, I’m happy you saw this!! Great to know that you loved Queens! Do you have any trouble or regrets with the loans that you had to take out for the program? I’m hoping they still have an ABSN grant or something like it to potentially even take something off of the cost. I’ve seen the NurseCorp scholarship but I’m hesitant to apply for it for the same reasons that you decided not to accept

Btay0123, I didn’t have any trouble taking out loans for school or paying them back. I took my loans out through Discover. They offer cashback rewards each semester if you earn a 3.0 GPA or higher. I have been able to pay back my loans without any problems, but I also don’t have any other debt besides student loans. Hope that helps!
