75 Q's, no SATA, no math, I'm scared...

Published

Took my NCLEX today and feel scared that I wasn't thinking straight. I had no SATA Q's and no calculation questions. I think that I may have answered some of the 'easier' questions wrong because I was over-analyzing them, so I'm afraid I may not have even got to the 'harder level of questions. A lot of the questions were "who do you assess first" and "which patient statement signifies teaching was effective/ineffective" types. The thing that I am most scared of is that when I was doing practice questions, I usually got more of the so called "harder" analysis questions right more than the supposed "easier" ones. I'm so afraid that I messed up the easier ones and never even got a chance at the harder ones.. even though none of them seemed to have clear answers to me. Also, a friend of mine who just took the exam said that a lot of the questions he got didn't specifically give you the name of a disease or medical state in the question, but instead gave you more of the symptoms and you had to figure out for yourself what they were talking about. I am worried because almost all of my questions had an exact medical condition named in them, making me wonder if they were easier level questions.

My only hope that I did well is that I graduated top of my class, passed all of the ATI tests on the first try, passed the comprehensive ATI with a prediction of a 98% chance of passing on the NCLEX and had a good mix of questions. My test did not seem to stay focused in one area.

I also finished the test in under an hour. I am a fast test taker, but am worried that my nerves may have caused me to rush and overlook things? I have no idea. Right now I feel completely ill and can't stop thinking about it. Just needed to vent. Thanks all for listening, and if you have any input it is much appreciated!

Hi,

Just got home from taking NCLEX. I had 75 questions. 1 SATA and 1 Math. Is 75 questions a good or a bad sign?

Good luck to all!

Jenn

Neither. The exam is so random that you just can not predict how it will go. Do remember though that 85% US trained students will pass first time. Hang in there and good luck

I had 4-5 SATA and two very easy math questions. I also had 75 questions and passed. While you might see some differing of opinions on this site, I've been led to believe that likely, 75 questions is a good sign. To fail in 75, the computer would have to be absolutely sure that you wouldn't pull yourself out of a tailspin. Since the CAT is designed to give you every chance to pass, most testers who are struggling at 75 will be given a couple more chances. However, there are testers who fail in 75. My point is that the odds are more likely that you passed in 75 than failed. But I also did the whole "what if" thing. Good luck! I'm sure you did great!

I passed!!!! Just found out..... what a great feeling! All of you hang in there and don't give up hope! You will pass!

Best of Luck to all of you in your futures and God Bless

I passed also. It still doesn't seem real.

I just took mine on the 7th, the only questions i got were regular multiple choice, no math, no chose all that apply , our min. number of q's in PA is 85 i took 86 questions and passed. I dont belive the question type has anything to do with pass or fail. Congrats on getting to this point in your nursing future!! Good luck!

Hi All,

I have taken NCLEX 4 times now, and unfortunately not passed. I have always remained at 75 questions, and last time (Last Thu) didn't face any math questions, like many of you have posted here. I had a good feeling after the exam and had gone with with Suzanne's plan preparation, and also read from Kaplan book. I am at my wits' ends here, and scratching my head as to what else I can do. I graduated over a year ago, and have never worked since finishing the program. I just don't know how to overcome this barrier, without which all my effort seems to have gone waste. Considering the acute labor shortage that this profession faces and tanking economy, you'd think boards or government would come up with a better testing system to help people pass and enter the workforce (perhaps not have to take all the sections all over, the ones where you have demonstrated passing ability). I am also expecting any day..and this stress is unbearable!

Any advice would be highly appreciated. I plan to take it now in next 6 months, after I have my baby.

Thanks all..this forum has been super helpful...

I would seriously consider doing Suzanne's plan from the start. She has great pass rate and you already have the Saunders book
